| dab | posted 8-Feb-2008 6:26pm I doubt that I do it 'the right way' but I do try to use all my fingers. |
| Galomorro | posted 8-Feb-2008 6:37pm Other -- I do it mostly the "right way" except I never learned how to do numbers without hunting-and-pecking. |
| Enheduanna | posted 8-Feb-2008 6:46pm I use all of my fingers, but I wouldn't say I do it "The Right Way." I don't use the proper fingers with the proper keys. But I still type pretty fast, and with reasonable accuracy. |
| Maarten | posted 8-Feb-2008 6:53pm 6 fingers. |
| Crayons | posted 8-Feb-2008 6:57pm I'm a two finger user but I have to look at the keyboard. i'm learning the right way in school but it hurts! |
| dilfreak | posted 8-Feb-2008 7:46pm I use all of my fingers on the "home keys". |
| lily333 | posted 8-Feb-2008 9:28pm I use more than two fingers but not the correct way. |
| RGirl | posted 9-Feb-2008 3:14am The 'right way'. Learned to type in high school. The more you do it the faster you get, and more accurate. |
| RGirl | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 9-Feb-2008 3:15am I have very small hands so there are some keys I have improvise with, especially on certain keyboards. |
| Melf | posted 9-Feb-2008 5:16am Do you mean 'touch typing' by 'The Right Way'? I can't touch type, but I'm reasonably speedy; about 85wpm. |
| Biggles | posted 9-Feb-2008 5:52am I use two fingers, but I can still type pretty fast. I was taught how to touch type when I started secondary school, but it was about four sessions and I never practised after that. |
| justjulie | posted 9-Feb-2008 6:59am sloppy "right way"....not a 2 finger hunt and peck type of thing, but not w/ "proper" either |
| they | posted 9-Feb-2008 7:26am I use "The Right Way" with all my fingers.
|
| Enheduanna | (reply to RGirl) posted 9-Feb-2008 11:09am I never thought of that, but I can see how it would be an issue. You need one of those really small laptops with the tiny keyboards! |
| Iseult | posted 9-Feb-2008 11:31am I learnt the proper way in grade 9 IT class.
See, I'm not looking at my fingers. |
| MacGregor | posted 9-Feb-2008 12:32pm I use multiple fingers, but not the "right way". I rarely use my pinkies. |
| LindaH | posted 9-Feb-2008 1:19pm More than two fingers, but not the right way. I don't have to hunt so much when i peck.
I |
| romkey | posted 9-Feb-2008 1:48pm It's called "touch typing". I touch type. With all my fingers. I don't do it the "right way" - there's an official way you're supposed to touch type and that's not the way I do it. But I touch type accurately without having to look at the keyboard. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 9-Feb-2008 3:21pm I use the right way with all fingers and how I was taught to type in school , yes i took a typing class back in my
school days |
| Otter | posted 9-Feb-2008 3:50pm I use most of my fingers. |
| kirst | posted 9-Feb-2008 8:27pm I type the proper way...learned in high school. I can type over 70 words per minute although it's not as fast when I'm thinking about what to write. |
| RGirl | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 9-Feb-2008 9:33pm I don't know if I've seen them. I've done it this way for so long I don't have to look anymore, well, no often anyway. I have the most difficult time with the numbers at the top and I have discovered that the keyboards on the bigger laptops have a separate number key on the side. I prefer that. |

| bill | posted 10-Feb-2008 8:30am I use more than 2 fingers, but I don't do it the right way either. I think I use about 7 of my fingers, maybe 8, possibly 9, but I'm pretty sure not all 10. I really don't know, I'd have to film myself to be sure. My fingers seem to know where the keys are, though if you asked me where a letter is I'd probably have trouble telling you. It all developed organically, over time, from using computers. It was 2 fingers at first. I was not taught the right way early on. Though, I did try it years later (some lame computer program), it didn't stick. I wouldn't say I'm a very good typist, but I do just fine. Sometimes, I can go very fast if my mood gets intense, like if I'm flaming someone online. |
| cloudhugger | posted 10-Feb-2008 8:31am I had a class in high school so I do it the "right way". I wan't great, but I was pretty good. Sometimes it seems all my fingers aren't working correctly, hence all the typos. At first it was pretty tough starting on the keyboard of the computer my fingers wanted to pound away. I learned on a pretty old machine, I think one of the first electric ones. That was in the middle '70's. I do find that my hands want to hover above the keys abit, so my hands dance and my fingers hit the little buttons like I'm playing an instrament or like a fairy dancing in the garden ring.
I have a wretched habit of having to look at the keys when I type. I don't have to, it happens when I am thinking of what to say. And I know I type better when I don't look. That was one of my biggest downfalls in class, the teacher used to have to remind me all the time not to look. And I never could get the hang of the numbers. Sometimes I do type with one finger and one hand when the cat is on my lap or I am on the phone. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to RGirl) posted 10-Feb-2008 4:16pm The problem with the tiny laptops is that they have tiny screens, too. But I guess they're lighter, too, which is nice. My laptop only has numbers across the top--I have to look to see which is which, too. |
| Irene007 | posted 10-Feb-2008 7:01pm The right way but with a few bad habits... |
| RGirl | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 10-Feb-2008 7:25pm Definitely not for me then, I like my laptops huge! I watch movies on it sometimes. I do have a Treo handheld that has a itsy bitsy keyboard on it. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to RGirl) posted 10-Feb-2008 8:33pm The Treos are little PDAs, right? Those are super tiny! But I'm with you--I like my laptop big enough to watch a movie on, too. |
| cerealkiller | posted 11-Feb-2008 2:57pm The "right way". Taking typing in high school was one of the smartest things I did back then. We had typewriters with blank keys so you couldn't cheat and look at the keys.
I'm pretty fast at it and have been tested not too long ago at 68 wpm. |
| RGirl | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 11-Feb-2008 6:36pm Yes, Treos are phone/camera/PDA's. I can read books and get on the internet as well. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to RGirl) posted 11-Feb-2008 8:48pm Ah, right. Sounds very handy! |
| Lahdee | posted 14-Feb-2008 8:11am other, I use about 4 fingers and then my thumb for the space bar. I hate typing with my pinkies and ring fingers. It's annoying to even try. Am I weird? .....wait dont answer that... |
| moviesnob | posted 20-Feb-2008 10:55am I don't know what the "right way" is. I do it the typical way, with both hands on the "asdf" and "jkl;" keys. |
| Zang | posted 1-Mar-2008 5:11pm I might not use my thumbs. I don't keep track of which fingers I'm using. Certainly more than two. Probably seven or eight... |
| Zang | posted 1-Mar-2008 5:17pm I use my left pinkie for the shift key. I don't use my right pinkie for anything and I don't use my thumbs. My hands move all over the keyboard though. I have to use the six main fingers to type fast. It's kind of like playing the piano, except I use all ten fingers for that. |
