So that they can have sex, if they don't believe in sex before marriage. So that they can be confident of their partner's commitment. So that they can convince themselves of their own commitment. Because they don't know how to refuse a proposal. Because no-one better seems to be coming along. Because they believe it is a way of expressing their love for one another. Because they're pregnant. Because their parents say they have to. Because they were raped. Because they need financial security. Because their children need another parent. Because they are lonely. Because they are drunk. Because it seems like the next step.
