It's on Hammer Time.. | Enheduanna | | posted 22-Jan-2008 8:00pm |
This is a guess, but I'll go with UTC-7. I'm pretty sure Chile is in UTC -5, and I would expect Easter Island to be a time zone or two off of that, although it might be more. I doubt it's further west than UTC-8, though. | bill | | posted 22-Jan-2008 8:23pm |

I'm going to guess -8. Most people don't realise that because of the tilt the Americas, New York City is further West than Chile, so I think Easter Island is probably due South from California. | | icurok | | posted 23-Jan-2008 5:17am |

I'd guessed the same thing. When we were there a few days ago it was the same time as it is in New York (due to DST). | JessicaWoman99 | | posted 23-Jan-2008 5:44pm |

British time is easy. British time I know. Easter Island time...not so much. | romkey |

I wasn't ever sure what time it was when I was there.
The answer is Central Time - UTC-6.
I really hadn't been cognizant of the fact that the west coast of South America (or at least, Chile) was east of the east coast of the US till recently. | cloudhugger | | (reply to romkey) posted 23-Jan-2008 9:49pm |
Depends. Depends on whether or not I am asked another question from a lesson I missed because I had to go to the bathroom during it. | romkey |
Um... there's a comparative religion and logic lesson going on but that's in another survey... I think it can wait while you go. | cloudhugger | | (reply to romkey) posted 23-Jan-2008 10:09pm |

Geographically, it looks like it ought to be in UTC-7 but it appears to have gatecrashed UTC-6. I never understood what gain islands got from belonging to the next one over.

When we were there, the sun was rising at 7:30AM... that felt a little late. But there's not really much industry or farming there; it's almost all tourism. Maybe it helps people feel closer to Chile. | Zang | | posted 24-Jan-2008 11:09am |
