Would and wouldn't. Oh, wow, so far everyone agrees with me, I didn't think that would happen. |

FoxTurtle wouldn't touch the switch in the first instance, but would in the second, so... |

FoxTurtle is the only one that agrees with himself, so... |

Why wouldn't you do it in the first one? |

FoxTurtle feels that, in his mind, it would make him a murderer by choosing to take a life that was not in jeopardy before got involved, so... |

Long as I do not die flip the switch in the first instance |

Wouldn't then would... if it's my life that I'm sacrificing, that's easier... someone else's life, is not so easy.
If this really happened, though, I'd probably freeze-up and not hit the switch in either case.
I really don't want to kill myself, though... so, I'd probably be focused on there being some chance that I or others would survive. |

Except for me I disagree oh just flip all of the switches and see what happens?? |

I wouldn't flip the switch in either situation. Who am I to mess with the Fates...unless it is my fate to make that decision...perhaps if I didn't flip the switch I'd be messing with fate... |

One life is as important as many. I would NEVER want to be in such a circumstance. I guess I'd take #2 |

as i said in qualifications: both situations seem to be inherently incorrect that these are the only options although the first may be more possible. in the second situation, if i know both options why can't i switch the switch and step off the track but then also if i am near this "switch", i doubt i am on the tracks!............. in the first situation, if i know both options why can't i have someone get the person off the tracks but i really think that if i am near the switch i couldn't know both options and if i somehow did i would have time to change the choices............ none of it makes solid sense to me! |

after reading the website, i understand the philosophical dilemma of the two situations when done as they did. what is the difference between allowing the trolley to kill the one person or pushing the man in front of the train? but the way it was worded here i thought there were holes in the story. |

The article said a ways down that most people responded that it would be ok to flip the switch in the first instance, but were appalled at the suggestion of pushing the man in front of the train. Although both scenarios seem the same (killing one innocent to spare multiple others), it was interesting to see the difference in human reaction to the two scenarios. |
