I don't have any pets. Caleb's got a cat. I used to think it loved me. Then, it broke my shoulder. I don't think that's love.

I don't have a cat or a dog. The ones I've had in the past, though, I feel loved me.

How did that happen?

I think my cats regard me as a good source of food, water, and petting. I'm also a good temperature to keep them warn. I do quite a bit of anthropomorphizing of my cats, but when it comes down to it, I don't think they're capable of emotions like love and hate. The one who is more attached to me I think just finds me less threatening than anyone else.

No pets, only small-ish children.
Oh, yeah, we do have a terrapin. It lives in a tank on top of the bar on our boat. I keep hoping that it will die so that I can buy an espresso machine. But thus far, it shows no signs of dying. Doubt it loves me although it does like me to feed it.

Maybe you could help it escape?

Some love me, some are indifferent, some take off and run when they see me coming.

I'd like to but there is no possible way it could escape on its own. At some point it will get too big for the tank and we'll have to liberate it. There are a bunch of terrapins at Hong Kong Park and I know people dump theirs there. However, Claire wants it to live at a mall near us where there are a bunch of koi and terrapins in a "pond" near the McDonald's.

I'm don't know how much Claire would even miss the turtle. She never even named this one. The two previous ones were "Rose" and "Garden". I gave my helper specific instructions not to replace the turtle (one had already died at this point) if it died over the summer. A week before we returned, the turtle kicked the bucket and she bought another one!!! Now the turtle is at least 1.5 years old and it seems to be getting bigger every time we look at it. No idea why it survived as we only feed it packaged turtle pellets. Its tank is regularly cleaned, though.

My cat loves me, he rubs his face against mine, smells my breath to see what I ate while I was out, I lick his face and purr to him. He waits by the door when he thinks I'm coming home.

We have a dog, and cats. I dont think they truly love me because I am not the same species as they are. They depend on me to feed and take care of them. 1 cat likes to be held, 1 cat likes to be held when she is in the mood. The other cats will sit by you and like to be pet,but not held. The dog...well he is just happy all the time.

I don't think these are really emotions that they feel. I think our cats understand that they can get what they want from us. I think we're sources of warmth and comfort to them, and they they imprint on us in certain ways that they might imprint on other cats.

That is the best comment ever. Not that I wish your terrapin ill, but I hope you get your wish--maybe a Christmas miracle will happen for you!

Maybe we could join the Lakota Nation. Apparently they're withdrawing from treaties with the US and trying to become independent. We could become honorary Sioux!

That would be awesome! They must be fond of trying to thwart stupid federal laws--like setting up an abortion clinic on a reservation when South Dakota outlawed abortions. (At least I think it was the Lakota Sioux who did that.) I allegedly have a very small amount of Cherokee blood in me; maybe that would get us in!
