| bill | posted 12-Dec-2007 6:10pm I suspect both breeds have issues... Have you considered getting a dog from a local animal shelter, a mutt perhaps? |
| labjog | posted 12-Dec-2007 7:41pm Jack Russel's are very hyper. |
| Amanda | posted 12-Dec-2007 7:48pm I've known people with both of these breeds and I don't think you can decide based solely on the breed. Both can be excellent pets. It's about the individual dog, how much time and attention you devote to it, how you treat it, etc. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 12-Dec-2007 9:05pm Probably neither and i suppose the Dachshund but I will say my cat is the very best to live with |
| ausfox | posted 12-Dec-2007 9:33pm I would say a Dachshund because I know that Jack Russells are energetic little dogs that require a lot of attention. I don't know for sure about daschunds though, I would do more research. |
| icurok | posted 13-Dec-2007 4:52am Not a Jack Russell. They're too active and unless you have a secure and large garden, it would be inappropriate to be out of the house for long periods.
Here's a site that gives you a recommendation on which breed would be suitable: http://www.purina.co.uk/Home/All+About+Dogs/Your+N... |

| jettles | posted 13-Dec-2007 5:27pm jack russel terriers are high maintenance and high energy............. i would pick the dachshund probably |
| LJD | posted 13-Dec-2007 5:51pm I've known people who have had both type dogs....and they were wonderful dogs. If it were I to choose, I suppose a Jack Russell...extremely loyal dog. Are you talking about a puppy? With either dog, a puppy will give you "a run for your money." I believe both dogs will do well with cats....just need a little adjusting. |
| RGirl | posted 13-Dec-2007 10:36pm Dachshund. A JRT needs a lot of attention, training, space outdoors and energetic owner. They are a bit hyper, smart, dig and bark and run in circles. They are clowns and have a mind of their own. Dachsies will test your patience less. After puppy hood they calm down and aren't as destructive. I think both are barkers and dachsies may dig too but not like a JRT. |
| kcthedog | posted 13-Dec-2007 10:40pm I believe that every creature is as unique as you and I! The breed of dog may have different attributes but the temperament and “personality” of the any dog will be unique. To try and quantify two personalities is in my humble opinion impossible. If you can find a dog that you find an attraction to, you should not be concerned about what breed it is. Consider someone looking for a friend and narrowing the possibilities only to Caucasians and Orientals! They would be limiting the opportunity to be friends to at least two thirds of the rest of the population! Any dog you decide on will love you unconditionally! All the logistics will work themselves out! |
| justjulie | posted 14-Dec-2007 8:56am Weiner dogs are wonderful lil loves, however one must be aware that they can develop back problems and one should be also cautious/aware of their weight. |
| cloudhugger | posted 14-Dec-2007 7:29pm Dachshund, a terrior will need to be entertained whether you are there or not. |
| mrmarm | posted 15-Dec-2007 6:05pm I don't know. |
| Crayons | posted 15-Dec-2007 7:41pm Jack Russels jump really high and are very energetic, go with the weenie dog. |
| they | posted 16-Dec-2007 12:44pm Little dogs are high maintenance.....
Just don't get a chihuahua or a mix with it in it. |
| thecomic22 | posted 16-Dec-2007 7:21pm I think I may go with the wiener doggy. |
| Iseult | posted 16-Dec-2007 10:35pm Terriers are generally fiesty, I believe. I am going to say Dachshund because they have a calmer personality. Jack Russel Terrier, unless I'm mistaking, is a hunting dog, and those dogs have lots of energy and need lots of activities. Locking them up while you're gone might make them rip all your furniture and cause damage. |
| moviesnob | posted 17-Dec-2007 1:35pm I've heard that Jack Russel's have a tendency to rip things up. I'm going to be getting an inside dog in the next couple of months, and if I had my pick of breed, I'd get a Corgi. I've heard they are great indoor dogs, and so cute to boot.

The real answer is - don't get a dog, period. What's the point of having one if you're not home all day? It's wrong to make a dog go all day without being able to go potty. And no, I don't believe in having a dog if it's gonna be left outside all the time. Cats either.
