How does this make you feel?
|
| Two people slapping each other, a guy hitting a pedestrian with a car, someone setting a house on fire, a guy laying in the railroad tracks, someone throwing rocks at his neighbor's windows, a woman jumping off a balcony, someone getting all up in your face, someone yelling at the checker in a store, someone throwing stuff at the drive-through cashier, a girl laughing in the face at a boy who gets up the nerve to ask her out, someone turning up the TV really loud just to agitate everyone else in the room, someone deliberately throwing glass bottles, a bitter divorce, a lost puppy, an abused runaway, a tornado throwing a car into a tree... |

After realizing it was a list, I started to scan it, and basically I didn't read the whole thing. I dislike reading lists. But, I wouldn't say I hated that list in particular. | | thecomic22 | | posted 13-Nov-2007 1:31pm |
Sad & pissed off. | cerealkiller | | posted 13-Nov-2007 1:35pm |
Only one that would bother me is someone getting in my face. I don't like confrontation. | Crayons | | posted 13-Nov-2007 4:03pm |
Indifferent, that's life, nothingness. Except the part where the girl laughed at the boy for asking her out made me sympathetic for them. | Melf | | posted 13-Nov-2007 5:18pm |
I don't know how to answer them as a whole, so here goes:
Two people slapping each other, The New Order video for True Faith
a guy hitting a pedestrian with a car, I see a guy picking up the car. One of those oddly worded phrases. I wish I knew the name for that.
someone setting a house on fire, I wonder what it will look like when the fire brigade get there.
a guy laying in the railroad tracks, I feel sorry for the train driver.
someone throwing rocks at his neighbor's windows, He must have a reason.
a woman jumping off a balcony, I wonder who will find her. She must have a reason.
someone getting all up in your face, Uncomfortable
someone yelling at the checker in a store, They're just doing their job
someone throwing stuff at the drive-through cashier, Potentially funny.
a girl laughing in the face at a boy who gets up the nerve to ask her out, Pathetic.
someone turning up the TV really loud just to agitate everyone else in the room, Therapeutic. Pathetic.
someone deliberately throwing glass bottles, Me and my friend used to do this. It's immensely satisfying.
a bitter divorce, It happens.
a lost puppy, Should have looked after it better.
an abused runaway, The Little Match Girl. Me and Len were talking about this earlier.
a tornado throwing a car into a tree... That could make a good painting.

Some of them sad, others indifferent/neutral. Like someone yelling at the checker, in which case the checker gets PAID TO deal with idiots like this and shouldn't take it personally. The guy doing the yelling will eventually get theirs in the form of a heart attack if they keep doing this. A lot of the other cases the person just sounds very annoying. Seriously, annoying people are just part of life, deal with it. | | RGirl | | posted 13-Nov-2007 7:31pm |
Other. For each and every example I don't have enough info to say how it makes me feel. The list as a whole is too diverse for me to feel one single emotion. | they | | posted 13-Nov-2007 10:22pm |
I like this survey.

Disliked reading the list as it's so negative. I don't need to read negative stuff as all this happens too often in real life... | | Mehdiz | | posted 14-Nov-2007 12:37am |
Everyday everyone may seen some of these, It's not very important, maybe one of them is you or me. | cloudhugger | | posted 14-Nov-2007 7:50am |
I thought I saw a common theme, I thought I saw something like those first several on tv previews to some really funny show, which obviously is funny to some, not funny to me.
While reading that I felt nothing. Other than the logical brain working on a familiartiy, there was more objectively "I felt little emotion". It's a list of words that made pictures in my head. It isn't real. I prefer to not get sucked into getting emotional in my head. | cloudhugger | | posted 14-Nov-2007 7:52am |

It did make me wonder why the SC made this survey. I'm guessing it's Linda.
Some of them made me shrug, some made me raise an eyebrow. One or two made me feel kind of sad or lost. | | cabinfever | | (reply to Melf) posted 18-Nov-2007 10:34pm |

Me too.... someday my husband will be the one driving the train.... | Melf |
Eek... I've heard it can be pretty traumatising. But then again, it's not that common is it? | | cabinfever | | (reply to Melf) posted 20-Nov-2007 12:47am |
More common than you would think. Remember, people are stupid animals. In the last four years my hubby has had at least a dozen close calls; one woman went around the barrier to beat the train, and just barely made it; a woman with her two kids crossed the tracks in front of his train... this woman was walking ahead of one of the little girls, and luckily she looked back, because she had to grab her daughter and quickly get out of the way... my husband still gets pissed about that one when he tells the story because that little girl was about the same age as our daughter. He could barely drive the train after that because of the fright and the adrenaline it caused. He said all he could see was our little girl out there on that track.
According to this site, nationwide a train colliding with a car or pedestrian happens every 2 hours. That's even more than I thought. Most collisions occur with trains traveling under 30 mph. 64% of all collisions occur in daylight hours. At 55 mph, it may take a train up to a mile or more to stop. You are 20 times more likely to die in a collision with a train than in a collision involving another motor vehicle.

That one about most 'accidents' (acts of stupidity) occurring with trains traveling under 30 mph gets me... it's not like the train is going so fast that you can't see it on a second look. It's just putting along. Most people wouldn't pull out in front of a car, but a train, why not? I'll shut up now. | kcthedog | | posted 27-Nov-2007 11:02pm |
I have experienced all of those, if not personally, in the third party. Just reading had no real effect on me, but I do recall remorse, compassion, anger, pain, and sorrow at the time of the event.
