Why is this survey limited to people between 16 and 21? I started drinking socially when I was about 12... Also, couldn't people answer this survey for when they were underage?

When I was underage, I did it for several of the listed reasons. Now I do it for different reasons, but some remain the same.

Sigh ... another American-centric survey. The drinking age isn't 21 everywhere, you know.

This survey should've been multiple choice.

I answered how I would have if I were still under age.

Halo: not really- having a beer is conforming, lining up 10 shots and slugging them all down while people clap time is more to impress than to conform ;)

I'm not under 21 so I had to choose the "other" option.

I.m not under 21 but I recently demonstrated that I am maybe too young to drink.

drdt - I seem to end up doing that about once every 5 years or so. Then it wises me up for awhile! Care to expound?

Would have been nice to have an option for "I don't drink" (or didn't, at that age.)

When I was 16-21 I drank alcohol because I liked it. I wasn't necessarily 'underage' during all those years, though.

SB: I get verbal diarreah as a side effect of drinking too much.

I am 18 and I live in South Africa where it is legal to drink from 18 upwards. However regardless of whether or not it is legal, why does anyone drink? Find the answer to that and you will know why most under-age drinkers drink. Also why are the ages from 16 up? Don't you want to know why 13 yr olds drink?

We just don't like to think about 13 year olds that drink. Although, I started at about 6 when my father used to sneak me sips of his scotch or whatever on the rocks when my mom was not looking. Then there were the family parties on the holidays when I was 7 or 8 and I would get falling down drunk on Advodkat(sp?) snowballs and sips of Babysham along with my cousins. The grown ups never noticed. They were having so much fun themselves.

No such thing as 'under age drinking' in The Netherlands.

I used to drink a lot but I've found that the closer I get to 21 the less appealing I find alcohol. ????
