I don't pray or write letters to Santa, but I still have an answer. Although I don't believe in God, I think there may be a certain personal efficacy for people who pray. It helps them think things over and sort out their true feelings and priorities. It is meditative and philosophical to an extent. Writing letters to Santa is mostly about material things, rather than personal ones. I'm sure there are exceptions, but if you're going to include something personal in a letter to Santa, chances are it's something you've already considered in depth, and have perhaps even prayed about. |

Other. I think, whether I believe in any god or not, I know that some people get a lot out of praying when they are praying for strength or for the well being of some one else. A psychological effect. I can tell you now that I may not believe in gods but I have to believe in some form of peace after death. I would equate praying for getting things like money or a car is equivalent as writing a letter to santa. |

What does "Chris" have to do with anything and who is he? |

Pretty much. It's all wishful thinking... ask daddy for something. At least with Santa Claus you usually get some gifts. |

In a way, yes. Both are a waste of your time. |

I have no idea. (And neither does anyone else know for sure.) |

No. I think it would be insulting to rate them as equal. I recognize that not everybody is an Atheist and respect their decision. However, Santa Claus is, without a doubt, a product of our imagination and someone for little kids to get excited over. |

We all have the ability to be Santa, but...God?...(only a few of us ) |

I don't believe in either so this probably doesn't really apply to me. |
