| they | posted 5-Oct-2007 8:35am Recently tossed it. |
| mrmarm | posted 5-Oct-2007 8:37am Still have? I don't even know what a 35mm camera is. |
| moviesnob | posted 5-Oct-2007 9:02am No, now I only have a digital one. |
| bill | posted 5-Oct-2007 9:07am Yes, in the closet. It's the one I got when I was 15, a decent camera with mostly manual controls. I have no plans to use it again, though. |
| EyesOfCharisma | posted 5-Oct-2007 9:53am no, I don't... wish I did |
| Enheduanna | posted 5-Oct-2007 11:43am Yes, I do. I have a Canon SLR that takes great pictures and, until very recently, a digital camera of the same quality was prohibitively expensive. I'd like to have a digital, and I'll probably get a small one just because it's more convenient. But I'll eventually want to get a digital SLR, too. I like having a really good camera.
People make fun of me all the time for my 35mm camera. They'll hear it take a picture and ask, "Is that film?" in an incredulous tone. When I take my fairy-goddaughter's picture with it, she always grabs at the camera to look at the back, where she expects the digital display to be. I have to explain to her that this camera doesn't work that way, and that the pictures are all inside the camera. I don't think she gets it. (She's only 2 1/2.) |
| paulyw | posted 5-Oct-2007 1:41pm I still have my 35 MM camera and it works like a charm. It is about 15 years old, and it is all automatic. You can even set the timer and it can take pictures by itself. I love taking pictures. I do not think I want to tinker around with a digital camera. They may be to hard for me to figure out. The camera I have now is a Chinon |
| cloudhugger | posted 5-Oct-2007 2:09pm Yes. Digital is not all that what it's cracked up to be. I far prefer 35 mm. Digital tends to distort. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 5-Oct-2007 3:02pm No, but I've never owned one. The only cameras I've owned were an Instamatic (with flash cube) from the 1960s & a Polaroid SX-70, which I got after my grandmother passed away. Neither of them are 35 mm cameras. |
| Amanda | posted 5-Oct-2007 3:11pm No. I had one, but I got in a bind and sold it to my brother. I figured lights were more important than a nice camera. I've got a crapty digital camera that I never use. I either use my cell phone or I buy the one time use cameras. |
| cerealkiller | posted 5-Oct-2007 3:34pm Yes, I have a Pentax 35mm my grandmother bought on a trip to Japan in 1963. And all the zoom lenses and filters. Also a full Canon 35 mm automatic setup that was my mother-in-law's. I don't use either of them. I have a Canon digital camera and a Sony Mavica digital camera. I rarely use either of them. |
| MacGregor | posted 5-Oct-2007 4:27pm I do, but I don't use it anymore. It's stuck in a bottom drawer somewhere. It was a really nice Pentax. I actually took photography in high school and remember spooling my film on a cartridge in a bag and then developing the film in the darkroom. I can still remember that smell. It was really cool. |
| RGirl | posted 5-Oct-2007 4:42pm Yes, but only use it for special occassions. |
| Irene007 | posted 5-Oct-2007 4:42pm Yes and I don't know what to do with it - it was a great camera and I have lots of lenses... It was Ben's camera. |
| thecomic22 | posted 5-Oct-2007 5:29pm No |
| Galomorro | posted 5-Oct-2007 7:36pm No, I used to but I donated it someplace. I've used a digital camera for several years, probably about 2000 or so. I have a Casio. |
| Iseult | posted 5-Oct-2007 7:40pm No. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Enheduanna, paulyw) posted 5-Oct-2007 8:26pm The digital camera is surprisingly easy, but I do like the quality of the film. It has so much more ...charm. I like having both. The digital takes care of the 'want it now' feeling, but the 35 mm is class all the way.
Those digital SLR are obscenely expensive! |
| iamdonte | posted 5-Oct-2007 8:50pm I have several 35MM camera....because I want to do darkroom stuff and create art photos using special filters and lenses, I will keep using 35mm. The digital experience is not the same as it is with film photography. If it is something that I want a quick photo of, I'll use digital.....but for art purposes, I'll stick with film. |
| Enigma | posted 5-Oct-2007 10:14pm I love my 35mm camera. |
| kirst | posted 6-Oct-2007 2:51am I still have one somewhere on the boat but I haven't used it for a long time----maybe 8 or more years ago. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 6-Oct-2007 12:38pm The digital would be nice for two reasons: it would be nice to have a smaller camera to use sometimes, so I don't have to lug the big one around; and it would be nice not to have to pay for developing all that film. If there are prints I really want, I can print them without having to pay the cost for all of them. And otherwise, I can shift to keeping most of my albums digital, which appeals to the environmentalist in me as well. Eventually the second reason is the same reason to get a digital SLR--once they come down in price a bit more, since quality-wise they're comparable to film at this point, I think. |
| docgbrown | posted 7-Oct-2007 12:03am Yes I still have a 35 mm camera, but I'm not sure where it is as I havn't used it in years |
| cabinfever | posted 7-Oct-2007 2:15am Yeah, we have a couple of them somewheres.... |
| cabinfever | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 7-Oct-2007 2:19am Isn't it funny how each generation has its 'advancements' that they take for granted? I could imagine my kid doing the same thing your goddaughter did. |
| cabinfever | (reply to cerealkiller) posted 7-Oct-2007 2:20am You know, that Pentax could be worth some money to a collector. |
| Cleo | posted 7-Oct-2007 2:37am Actually I have a question....... are the throw aways 35 mm?? If yes, then yeah! I do. |
| rustygirl50 | posted 7-Oct-2007 10:45am Ya, I did. Then gave it to a friend |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 7-Oct-2007 10:59am I haen't really seen any pictures from an expensive digital. On the other hand, cheap 35mm takes horrendous pictures too. I bought one second hand from a guy at work to have a small toss around extra, and after 2 rolls of easted film, I find it distorted people worse than a cheap didgital. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 7-Oct-2007 4:38pm I have a camera that hooks up to my computer a web-cam |
| Enheduanna | (reply to cabinfever) posted 7-Oct-2007 5:55pm I think at least a couple people have chosen the "What's 35 mm?" option. I'm sure they don't know what a Walkman is, either. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 7-Oct-2007 6:01pm I think a good digital camera has a high enough resolution now to be virtually indistinguishable from (good) film. There are other ways in which they're still different, especially because things like the aperture may not be exactly the same size, but as you noted, you get those differences among cameras as well--even among high-end cameras. |
| gambler | posted 7-Oct-2007 6:06pm No, I dont think so |
