Three is a magic number:

It's true - That's my favorite band by the way.... and I had my number all picked out before ever hearing this song.

And then what clinched the whole number 3 significance was my daughter's birth.

Born: 12-6-99
Time: 6:03 pm
Weight: 6 lbs, 15 oz.
Length: 21 inches

It's all divisible by three.....

Which led to the tattoo:
image [full]

Then I really started getting a complex about it recently... At the start of 2006, I thought it would be a great year. I was turning 30. The year was divisible by 3.... And then in the 9th month, my friend committed suicide. It was the worst year of my life. Now I have it in my head... that it might be a bad thing.... that I'll be 33 in '09.... 36 in '12.... 39 in '15...... It's kind of freaking me out.

Don't have one. I just pick addresses of houses I particularly would like to live in when I have to choose a number for some reason.

It's the square root of 16, or 2 squared, or half of 8; however you want to look at it.

I guess it's fairly common for people to get obsessed about numbers. It's fun most of the time and not something to worry about. I assume it has something to do with the way the human mind works. We're all really good at finding patterns in things we experience. Most of the time, that serves us well. But, sometimes, we see things that perhaps aren't real. One of the best counter-arguments is to try to list all the things that don't fit the pattern. Usually there are far more of those. But, we tend to ignore stuff that doesn't fit the pattern. In the movie, he used various techniques (mostly adding) to get to 23. But, which numbers he chose to add made a difference. For example, 9/11/2001... 9+11+2+1 = 23! But, why did he count the 11 as one number and the 2001 as 4 numbers? i.e. It could have been 9+1+1+2001 = 2012 or 9+1+1+2+0+0+1 = 14 . I think it's what numerology is all about too.

It's a very good point - but you're right about the fun of it, life less fun with this thinking.

It would be comforting to be rational about it I suppose(now that I've associated it with bad things too).. but I've always felt such a closeness with the number 3, that I don't ever think I could just wipe away the idea that it's not significant. I'll always be doing the math in my head.. And who knows? It's possible there have been millions of important things that have happened to me that have boiled down to the number 3.. possibly more than ones that don't fit the pattern... and I just didn't notice at the time. Maybe I just haven't done enough math * raspberry *

I connect colors to numbers too.... I wonder if other people do this. I wonder if a survey has been done about it * smile *
