Relaxed I'd say, & I think its fine. But if I'm around my friends or family that are non smokers, I walk outside to smoke. One of my friends happens to be extremely allergic to cigarette smoke & the last thing I'd wanna do is send her to the hospital. Anybody else can deal with it or move away from me.

Nonsmoker -- lifetime. I pity the addicted and think people should make more of an effort to stop. Don't like idea of smoking cuz it has the potential to harm others -- not only the smokers themselves. I think a lot of kids start because they are rebelling against people telling them they shouldn't. It's a peer-pressure thing too, and younger people tend to not think about harmful effects applying to themselves--just to other people.

I'm quitting tomorrow because I'm so sick of it. It stinks up my house, my car, my clothes. I have to go outside to smoke in my own home when there are non-smokers (like my grand-child and ex-smokers who are the most vociferous about the stench). Potential, non-smoking mates don't give me the time of day (especially when they're from the West Coast), I'm sick of ruining my health and I'm sick of being this society's new pariah....

I really don't understand the younger crowd of today who smoke. It's not like they didn't have all the warnings - I wish we had had the same... I come from smoking parents, from a generation who grew up smelling everyone else's smoke. As inconceivable it is to smoke in public places today; I can't believe that as recently as 15 years ago - people were smoking in the grocery store! (Not that I did...) I remember smoking in a plane! A theater! A bus!! A hospital even!! Ashtrays were EVERYWHERE!!

I think they mainly just want to rebel against all the warnings. My parents smoked (and drank) too. That tobacco smell is a total turnoff too. Now people are all over the sidewalks because they're not allowed to smoke in their apartments, and people on the sidewalk walking by have to put up with it.

Wish me luck... or strength! Some say that cigarettes can be such an addiction to people that it's worse than cocaine and to boot; it's LEGAL!!! How the hell can that be??? Try to come up with a new product that harms your health, is addictive and serves no purpose whatsoever! See if you can get it on the market today! And yet...

Smoking what?

I used to smoke cigarettes, and it made me feel good, but it also had many negative effects on me.
I went through a weed smoking period, but I haven't touched it in seven years because it made me feel paranoid and I would forget who I am when I smoke it.
I haven't smoked crack yet.

I smoke one or two cigarettes a day. I really enjoy them when I smoke them, and they tend to make me feel relaxed. I do think it's a bad habit, but up to people to decide for themselves. It really irritates me when people try to give me advice about not smoking or tell me it's bad for me. I know these things, and all they are doing is showing just how completely they don't understand smoking.

No, I was just thinking of over the counter remedies. Not recreational, but therapeutic. Take the anti stress ones before a big speech, before an interview, after a car accident or house fire, that sort of thing. And the stimulants could be mild like caffeine, only used when caffeine isn't working. Why can't we have those options without a DX?

But, now the ONLY time I ever smoke is if I was out celebrating or something, then I would have a drink in one hand & a cigarette in the other. They just seem to go together. Like salt & pepper.

Weird cause I came from 2 non smoking parents. But, my brother, sister & I smoked. After I had Bianca I just thought to myself, this cigarette is not making me rich, not making me healthy, not doing a dam good thing for me! So one day I just quit, no cold turkey. Just disgusted for the whole thing.
I didn't miss the smell on my breath, I didn't miss the smell on my clothe, I stopped coughing & gaging every morning, & I didn't have to spend any more money on it. Not only that but, smokers wouldn't ask me to spare them a cigarette or give them a light anymore cause I had none. I felt liberated!!

Yeah, coke snorted isn't addictive physically -- at least it wasn't to me when I used to do it. Gawd, what a huge waste of money that was! I regret it now cuz I was low-income anyway and if I'd put all that money away I used to "blow" on coke (and ecstasy -- another expensive indulgence -- weed was nearly as much) many years ago (acid didn't cost much), then I could've maybe had a house of my own by now with that garden I want so much. But when you're younger you tend to think things will automatically work out okay when you get older -- at least I did; no money sense whatsoever. If they'd legalize marijuana today I'd probably not take it up again because of the cost.

Around here the towns have started outlawing smoking even in your own residence if you live in multi-family structures such as apartments, condos, etc.

There should be some public places where people are allowed to smoke, as long as signs say 'this is a smoking establishment' or whatever. I don't think it's right at all that there are no more public places for people to smoke in, and I have never been a smoker. I don't like people I care about to smoke because I was a nurse and I worked with cancer patients so I've seen the worst that can do. This is pretty late and whatnot... but, you were wondering why some the younger generation of today smoke. I saw Control last night (it's a black and white film that's just come out, telling the story of Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division) - it's the single best advertising for smoking ever. I think smoking very much still carries the cool, rebellious factor.

I guess but there's so much more uncool things underlined about it now that you'd think... well, I have to admit that it IS always the coolest people who are outside smoking! I think I'll still go out there, even if I don't smoke, it's just a good place to meet people!

I cheated yesterday and had one - Just like last Saturday oh and Friday night too... Just one each time though. I just can't drink - I guess that I'll have to quit that forever too if I don't want to smoke...

 * surprise * At least it's only one at a time. It would be incredibly hard to just stop. Why do you feel the need to give up drink?

I can't drink and not smoke - they go hand in hand, so... (As the turtle would say!)

I used to smoke, then I quit a few years ago but used to have the odd one when I was drinking. Since the smoking ban, I've not had any.
