If my sister was missing and DNA matching hers was found in my truck, that she had never been in, would you suspect that I killed her?

My sister is my identical twin. The DNA is 100% a conclusive match.

I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a "100% conclusive match" in DNA testing.

Are you female? If you are, then your DNA is probably identical to your sister's, and I don't think there's any conclusion you could draw here.

The simplest conclusion is just that it's not true that your sister had never been in your truck. It seems a long leap from "she's missing" to "you killed her".

But, aren't you saying that your DNA and your sisters is the same? So, the DNA in your truck could be your own. So, bad evidence.

Yes, I did base it on the Maddy case. Weak DNA wont work even in the case of regular siblings, because the DNA is so close. When 2 siblings have been in a car, they can't tell Maddy's from theirs using weak DNA tests. There are too many people who assume "the parents killed her" because of this body fluid DNA "match".
Kudos to people who know that my sister and I have identical DNA. * grin *

It's impossible for boy/girl twins to be identical twins. They will always be fraternal, which is not going to be identical DNA.

The perfect defense! Although, there are probably all kinds of other chemical markers that they could look for in the kind of material they might test for DNA. Don't start framing your sister until you're sure you can get away with it!

Believe it or not, there are a couple of recorded cases of identical twins of different sex. I'm not sure of the exact mechanism - but I imagine it involves some pretty impressive post-conception (and post separation of the embryos) genetic mutation, or it might only occur where there's the wrong number of sex chromosomes (e.g. XXY instead of XX) in both twins. I suppose you could argue that unless they have XX and XY chromosomes that they are not strictly male *or* female though...but still, pretty interesting.

I'm going to have to go away and look this up properly now - there goes the next hour of my time!

I'd never heard of this and I'm always reading stuff about twins! I have too much to do today, so I'll probably look when I have the time to sit and surf that long.
On a side not, once I saw on one of those "who's my baby's daddy" shows, a girl who didn't know which guy (twin brothers) was the dad. They thought they were fraternal twins, and the DNA results came back-and it was found that they were identical and they couldn't tell who was the dad. I might have mentioned that before in another survey. lol

And this has a bit more about it.

Oh, and back to you and your sister farming one another - what about fingerprints? Aren't they at least partly determined by the environment rather than genetics?

In the case of identical twins, it isn't the DNA they will look at. Yes, it will be identical, but as you grow you get different antibodies, different markers and that is what they will look at. So, if they only check DNA then finding a match is no help. They need to look further.

If you're identical twins, it would be difficult, if not impossible to differentiate your DNA from that of your twin sister. There have been several paternity cases in past years where there was difficulty in determining which twin was the father since their DNA was the same.
