| CarlHalling | posted 25-Aug-2007 11:51am There are a good many I like. The Beatles made quite extensive use of them in the early days, and one of the best I feel was that to "If I Fell". A really moving intro is that to "Old Man River"; heartbreaking. Possibly the most haunting ever used in contemporary Rock music is the intro to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". It's like a distant call...a chiming bell...a cry of despair from the depths to a much loved long lost friend. Of course, it was recorded in 1975, when there was still hope for its subject's return to life and love and joy, which perhaps makes that intro all the more poignant. Just incredible. |
