I don't much care.

Hurting, for all the reasons listed and probably more. Buying overseas is the one that bothers me the least, though; lots of good companies do that, too. The way they treat their workers and drive other businesses away are the worst aspects.

You missed the main good thing about Walmart:
Walmart is good because it provides low cost goods to people. Low cost goods gives people, especially people on a low income, a better quality of life.

Doesn't this option say that, but with less description?

Walmart is helping America because it brings them quality goods at a reasonable price.

This sounds good until you consider who are working in the primary and secondary industries to allow this.

I hesitated to agree with "quality" goods. Certainly, some (most?) of the stuff for sale at Walmart is not high quality. Also, "reasonable price" seems ambiguous to me. I think Walmart's prices are often very low (much lower than "reasonable" IMHO). Also, I wanted to mention the whole thing about how low prices help poor people, specifically. Honestly, I assumed the author of this survey has a bias against Walmart and added the answer you quoted as more of a joke (since Walmart is well know for not having "quality goods").

Walmart's bad. For many reasons. I don't like it - I use the Canadian alternative Zellers (which sucks as a store, but it's closer to where I live and it's owned by HBC, which is like the ultra-Canadian company... recently acquired by an American).

But yes - Walmart bad. Cheap yet bad quality. Bad for the economy. Don't think I understand the concept fully because I never bothered with it. I think there was something in one of my textbooks but I've since forgot what it exactly said.

Hurting cuz it drives competing smaller, nonbranch, local stores out of bizness.

I love Walmart. Screw the little over-priced stores. I frickin' hate that towns are blocking the super-Walmarts. There was gonna be one by me but the city blocked it.

Almost all of the above. I don't think they always have 'quality' goods but they are cheap. I disagree that there is any badly needed competition. More hurts than helps the country as whole but I'm not going to look down on some one needing a job or with children trying to get by.

because it brings them quality goods at a reasonable price.- That is an illusion
it is a source of badly needed jobs. Badly needed because they put other stores and jobs out of business.
it offers a better variety of goods than many conventional storesFact, they have a crappy variety.
it provided badly needed competition to conventional stores There will always be competition. If there isn't, than it isn't badly needed.
offers only low paying jobs without many benefits yes, it does, but so do alot of other 5ive and dimes. It is bad because they create this illusion about happy Americans smiling God Love America I got a great job! And I don't know anyone who works there who is even remotely happy. they hate their job.
it is driving competing conventional stores out of business Yes, if you think they are not, than you have become brainwashed by them.
it buys from supplies overseas instead of American suppliers God Bless America! Wave your flags as you shop there! Smile you brain washed shoppers.
If you think you are saving money, it is an illusion. you are spending more to get more, sure, but it is a sale of seduction. It's the devil waving a saved nickel in front of you and prompting you to spend it there.

If it was just a few Walmarts it wouldn't be such an issue. but they are taking over the country by storm. they are making more money off of people shopping there than you can imagine.

Those who harvest the raw materials and those who make them into something else. Tertiary are involved in selling the final product. Quaternary industry is the use of computers and whatnot in all this.

There doing helping and hurting, So they have pretty much equaled themselves out.. Sears is just as bad as Walmart if not worse in some cases. Walmart seems to be an extreme example because they store is soo popular.
