This doesn't really apply to me. I may decide at the checkout counter not to buy something after all, and it may be financially motivated, but I don't have that strict a grocery budget, so it's never a matter of not having enough money to actually pay for the groceries at the time I am buying them. If I literally didn't have enough money to buy everything I wanted/needed, I think I might feel a little embarrassed about having to put things back, but not overly so. It happens, and it's difficult to know what the total is going to be until you get to the checkout.

No. It hardly ever happens. It happens more that I got the wrong thing than what the coupon was for. It doesn't bother me at all.

This has only happened to me once, that I remember. I'd run into a grocery store late one night to pick up a few things and didn't have enough cash on me. It wasn't busy, so I ran out to the car to get a credit card. I wasn't humiliated, but I might have been had it been in the middle of the day and there had been people in line behind me. I know I get annoyed when I'm standing in line and this happens to someone in front of me. When I worked in a grocery store, I had this happen many times. It's a pain in the ass, because the people then want to pick which items to take off and stall and think. You're standing there wanting to scream at them to bring a calculator next time.

Yes Amanda this has happened to me before like not enough cash and she starts taking some things off and they
have to put it back on the shelf
It is just embarrassing for this to happen and now I do have a food stamp card $10.00 is the limit and along with
my food I buy over the counter medications or cat food and I have to spend some time to separate the food
items and I tell her at the checkout that I have a food stamp card $10.00 and sometimes I still go over $10.00
and I pay the rest with cash
But now I got back my credit card which is a surprise to me because I over charged my other credit cards by
$5,000.00 and could not pay them back at all and the credit company waved them off
This time I only have a $300.00 limit on my new credit card

Since I am a bachleor, I go to the grocery store to buy only the items I am going to eat that evening....I just do not have the capacity or interest to think any further ahead if I'm cooking for just me. When I have gone real shopping with partners, one of us always had extra money when we bought separate things. In fact, especially with Joseph, the last one, our clown line would be:" I'll pay ya back. ", and the other answering, "You better". Which we would NEVER do, of course.

Something like this happened to me recently, and such was my mortification that the sweet lady at the check-out register let me off the little I had left to pay. I think she was concerned for my health.

I do this often. I generally only have 40 dollars when I go shopping, and I keep a running total in my head.. sometimes I lose track of where I was and go a bit over... I just say 'can you take this off' and go about my day

I never pay for anything in stores with cash, so this doesn't really apply. I have in the past though had my debit or credit cards declined and that is embarassing.

No, but this happened to my grandmother because there wasn't any money on her card she had to wait around the shop for half an hour for my grandfather to pay, she was embarrased that she's swore never to go to back , (a bit dramatic I know)

I never bring more to the checkout than I could afford. Anyway, there's always that chance I wouldn't notice since I use a debit card... those get approved a lot of times even if the funds aren't there.

No, not usually.

That happened to me the other week, I was 52 cents shorts, and since the cashier didn't look like she was going to budge, I had to bust out my Amex.

This has never happened to me. I usually pay on my debit card, and even if I didn't have enough money in my account, the transaction would still go through - and I'd even manage to avoid the charge for going overdrawn if I managed to transfer money across from my savings account before the end of the day. I'm going to apply for an interest free overdraft soon, so I don't see this happening in the future either.

I've never had this happen. It would embarrass me, though.
