The items I most regularly replace are light bulbs. |

the only thing at this time I can think of is these expensive air cleaners we have. Alpine...whtever they are. They are absolutley awesome when they are brand new out of the box. I bought my first one back in '97 and it has been sent back to the 'shop' several times. The company went through an over haul so I gave them another shot. they are great when they work, but yesterday I took it apart to clean it because of course it wasn't working again and a fudging wire snapped off. Gak, I cannot fix electronic, so I have to mail it to their shop.
There really isn't anything else that I can think of... |

I've had to fix our dryer several times... and I have perpetual computer problems which need repair. |
Lahdee | | posted 29-Jul-2007 10:29am |
We keep going through coffee makers. James recently fixed the one we have now, though. I don't know how much longer it will last. Yesterday the motor exploded on the vacuum cleaner, so today we have to go get a new one. |

As in hair straighteners, like these:

Okay... I just never heard of it being referred to as a 'pair' before. I have one too... It is a 'Helen of Troy' brand, I got it in a salon. Good quality, never had problems with it. |
Melf |
I should really invest in some decent ones. My first pair were awful, the second broke, and the last ones got stuck together with hairspray and snapped apart ( I guess that was my fault). I can borrow my brother's in the meantime. |
| cabinfever | | (reply to Melf) posted 29-Jul-2007 2:41pm |
Your brother has a straightener? How long is his hair? |
| Richard47 | | posted 29-Jul-2007 2:56pm |
Dishwasher: Yes, those damn things. I've replaced it eleven times this past year alone, and it STILL doesn't work. |
Melf |
Just at half way down his neck. He wants to grow it out really long and look all piratey, with his hair all combed back and a full stubble . My other brother has straighteners too, but he's just had his hair buzzed all over. They're so gay... |
Lahdee | | (reply to Richard47) posted 29-Jul-2007 5:16pm |
It seems like everywhere we have ever lived had a broken dishwasher. We bought a house a little over a year ago and have had no problems with the one here. yay. Maybe the trick is the right brand. We have a Kenmore. Someone at an appliance center said something about numbers of some sort..(levels for water?) wish I could remember what that was all about. |
Lahdee | | posted 29-Jul-2007 5:18pm |
Oh yeah we need to replace the hose and the squirter/rinser tap thingie. Whatever it's called. "Yes I need to replace my squirter rinser thing for my kitchen sink, the handle broke" lol |
| Richard47 | | (reply to Lahdee) posted 29-Jul-2007 7:35pm |
Kenmore is a good brand. I think their machinery is complex (more than a washing machine), and the high heat (to destroy germs) can't help. |
| cabinfever | | (reply to Melf) posted 29-Jul-2007 8:22pm |
Hey, that long-haired, stubbly look can be quite hot on the right guy. The key is not to go completely grungy and stop showering. But then, the buzzed look is great, too. I should know, I had to buzz my hubby's hair a few days ago for his two-week duty. But I digress... at least I know what you meant by a 'pair' of straighteners now. |

Water pipes. I seem to have leaks all the time. It's always where the pipes are connected. (Joints, I think they're called??) I think we've replaced them all. *knocks on wood* Last time I thought we'd probably replaced them all, I had 2 break the next week.
While it's not something that I have to regularly repair, my central air went out Friday. I'm so pissed! It's way too hot to deal with no air. My dad bought us a window unit to get us through until we can have someone come out and take a look at it. (Probably this coming week.) I'm hoping it's nothing major, because the window unit just isn't cutting it. |

Be happy you've got one. The only dishwasher we've got is called Amanda. |

That sounds like me going into a parts store. I went to buy a dryer vent a while back. I couldn't think of what it was called (I'm dense sometimes). I told the guy I needed the silver accordian looking thingy that goes on the back of the dryer. He said, "A dryer vent?" I was like, yeah, that's what I said. |
LindaH |
Parts store probably has a tally board in the breakroom, where they mark up how many times anyone says 'doohicky' 'thingie' 'whatchamajigger' etc for their own amusement.
well.. I know if I worked there, I'd have one. |

I have word retrieval problems sometimes. Once I did a price check on a rower thing, instead of saying "oar". The customer thought I was a moron. |

But your basic plumbing is OK, right? Should we call someone to take a look, fiddle around with it, and check. I have one worker, and his assistant. Though they are fast, they are pretty good. Are you under any type of warranty? |

I have a Danby countertop dishwasher... they run around $150.00.... and take up just about as much space as a dish drainer on your counter. It works pretty good and is a perfect size for a small family.
My mom got mine for xmas for me a few years ago..... but I'm glad it's so inexpensive - it won't be expensive to replace if it ever dies on me. |
| Amanda | | (reply to they) posted 30-Jul-2007 12:50pm |

A fish and chip shop A more Northern phrase would be '... chippie is a right pillock!' but that just reads like bad grammar |

I can't even put that down 'cause I buy the long lasting, energy efficient ones; they are more expensive but they pay off in the long run.... Do votive candles count? |

The cat water dish/fountain seems to break a lot. My wife deals with it, though. We got a new one recently and immediately had trouble with it, but after some tweaking and time, it settled down and is working fairly well now. I have a chair that I sit in a lot that has a bolt where it tilts back and the bolt gets loose every 3 weeks or so. So, I have to tighten it. But, I can live with that. |

Is that the blue one from walmart that you plug in, and water comes down...? I bough that because my cats LOVE the faucet..and I really don't care for them drinking out of it... Anyways they hate that too, and want the faucet still :/ |
bill |
lol... I don't know if it's the same one that Walmart has. We get it out of some catalog (Pet Smart maybe).
Our cats had a faucet addiction for a while too, but we somehow got them to stop doing that. I think they just decided to stop on their own really.
But our cats really like the fountain... we think it gets them to drink more to, which is healthy and crap, so.. |
cerealkiller | | posted 31-Jul-2007 3:04pm |
Yeah, the vacuum cleaners. We have at least 3 or 4, each the best for what they do. It's mostly unclogging cat hair out of the roller brush or tubing, fixing a belt or dismantling the whole damn thing when my wife inadvertantly vacuums over cat vomit. |
