I'd respect that person's right to offend me. |
they | | posted 19-Jul-2007 7:54am |
This happened to my SO recently.
He had a bumper sticker that said "The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans".
While it was parked at work, someone ripped off the sticker, wadded it up, and threw it in the back of his truck. The next day, they came back and egged the truck. I guess we really pissed off a republican.
When I was a teenager, I had a bumper sticker that said: "My Kid Sells Drugs to your Honor Student"... someone ripped that off too.
I just wouldn't do this. |

nope, i'd leave it alone.. and leave him to be a idiot. |

Hmm.... so it obviously wasn't someone from SC who defaced the truck.... |

No...that's stupid. Some people get offended by things you wouldn't even think twice about..doesn't mean you have the right to damage their car by ripping a bumper sticker off..
But go ahead and try it. |

I saw a bumper sticker on a Volvo that said "If You Love America Get Rid Of Your SUV" That pissed me off, At the time I owned three utility vehicles, I can't believe people are so stupid as to question someone's patriotism based on the vehicle they drive.
When we have three feet of snow or three inches of ice that cripples the area, it's ham radio operators, MARS operators, and auxiliary troopers like me that have four wheel drive that put on tire chains and drive to the top of some mountain to provide communications. We're on call for emergencies like that. We own four wheel drive vehicles for a reason.
I put a bumper sticker on two of my utility vehicles that had a mildot scope reticle and says, "This is my peace symbol." I hope it pisses people off!
No, I wouldn't tear it off, they have a right to express an opinion different from mine. |
| thecomic22 | | posted 19-Jul-2007 2:04pm |
Nah, I just turn my head & overlook it. I've learned in life you haft to do a lotta of that. |

Why not? There are people who will question your patriotism based on what kind of coffee you order, what bands you listen to, and what politicla party you're registered with.

And there's nothing wrong with SUVs in those circumstances, but most people who buy those things don't use them to traverse the Rockies. SUVs have no place in the city. |
Zang | | posted 19-Jul-2007 2:22pm |
I find that hard to imagine. It would have to be pretty offensive. Someone else probably would have beat me to it. |
Zang | | (reply to they) posted 19-Jul-2007 2:23pm |
I was picturing something a lot more offensive. "Kill Chinks!" or something like that... |

You don't know why a person drives an SUV just by looking at them. Not many cars have 6 person seating... If they are out there, they are hard to find. |
| Amanda | | posted 19-Jul-2007 4:12pm |
No. The chances of seeing a bumper sticker that really offended me are pretty slim. But, even if I did, I wouldn't do anything. It's their vehicle, not mine. If they choose to post their thoughts on their bumper, I've got no problem with that. I don't have to agree with them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to rip their sticker off or do anything to their vehicle. |

When my brothers and I were younger, my dad had that bumper sticker that says, "My kid beat up your honor student."
Caleb's an honor student and brings home the honor student bumper stickers. "My kid's an honor student at (insert school here). He's asked me to put them on my vehicle, but I just can't do it. I'm proud of my kid, but those stickers have always rubbed me the wrong way. I just don't want to be one of those people! |

I know! That's why I was so tickled by the one I had. At the time, those "My kid beat up your honor student" stickers were real big....
Mary's school doesn't do those stickers. |

I know what you mean. Thoes things always pissed me off when I was in school cause I was dumb as a somedog & I felt like I was having my nose rubbed in crap. Hey, maybe thoes folks are the enemy! Holy crap I may be on the brink of a huge discovery!! *gets so excited has to run to the bathroom to crap* |
| Amanda | | (reply to they) posted 19-Jul-2007 5:35pm |
I wish Caleb's didn't. He was slightly upset when I refused to put one on my vehicle. But, when I let him stick one on his bedroom door and tack one on my wall, that made it better. I'm all for rewarding kids for making honor roll, but don't punish the parents! |
| Amanda |
When I was in elementary, I always made honor roll. But, my parents never put the bumper stickers on their vehicles. My dad did put one on his lawn mower once, though. I just don't like the idea. I do think it's kinda rubbing your face in it. Have you seen the bumper sticker that says something like "Your kid's an honor student but you're still a dumb ass"? I love that one! |

no, I don't advocate anarchy. Just because you don't like something (especially if its 100% legal) doesn't mean you take the law into your own hand. Vandalism is definently a crime, a pointless one at that. The most you're doing is helping the owner of the copyright of the bumper sticker make more money because the guy will just go buy another one. There should be a law that if you get caught doing that, you pay 50 times the original value of the sticker to the owner. |

I tend to find political bumper stickers annoying in general. Someone who would question someone's patriotism over something stupid, especially coffee or the band they listen to is just a plain dumbass. Theres no hiding it.

No... it's their property. If it were really offensive to me and I saw the driver, I'd say something, but the likelihood of that is pretty low. Besides, you never know when some busybody will see you and call the authorities for vandalism. |

As it happens, vandalism and hypocrisy offend me far more than anything that could be written on a bumper sticker. |

After reading some of these replies I can think of a couple of things that would make me pretty mad - I would certainly want to rip it off but I don't think I would. |
