Yes, this is a term I often use to describe music. To me, a haunting song is one that is slow, beautiful, and often dark and gives me goosebumps the entire time it plays.
I know I've heard many songs that fit this description, but the only two that immediately come to mind are Still by The Foo Fighters and Space-Dye Vest by Dream Theater. |

I came up with this survey, because I was listening to Sadness by Enigma, which in 1991 was a surprise No.1 in the UK for 1 week it also featured in a few movies (Single white Female) and ads I think ....
The other singer is pretty much anything by "enya" and before that her family's group "Clannad" ........ Irish/gaelic music |

I vaguely remember thinking this about songs in the past, but I can't think of any examples right now. |

Yes there is. It is a song by Crystal Gayle and someone... Art Bell used to play it on his show all the time as bumper music. I don't remember the name of the song and I just tried to look for it. Ardra or something... I've looked for it before and couldn't find it then either. Truly haunting. |

Yeah... every time I hear it, it almost makes me cry thinking about my child. That recent Kenny Chesney song "Who'd You Be Today". Also Stevie Nicks' song "Landslide". "Lightning Crashes" by Live. A lot of Celtic music. There is a song by a Native American group called "Wishes for Peace and Happiness". "How Much I Feel" by Ambrosia. |

Yes, many, far, far too many to mention. If I were to single out just one though, I might make mention of "Clair de Lune" from Debussy's "Suite Bergamesque"...or perhaps "A Lark Ascending" by Vaughan Williams. Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of "My One and Only Love" is one of the most haunting ever examples of vocal Jazz. With regard to Rock/Pop, oh there are so many...but "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" by Gerry and the Pacemakers never fails to intensely move me. |
