Sounds like someone just got their hands on some sub-literature....

My knee-jerk reaction was to say, no, I know what I think, what a stupid question this is... but it occurs to me that I am actually doing this currently and it actually helps.

No. If I don't know what I really think, chances are I'm not ready to deal yet.

NO. I was asking this question today since I work for a psychotherapist now. One of my girl friends is far more shrewder about recognizing my (or other peoples) motives and cognitive wiring than this man with a Ph.D.

grmbrand - actually it was a long time ago, but I always loved the slogan "You'll pay to know what you really think".
I think we all do this is one way or another. Sometimes it's just subtle cues or affirmations, other times it can be very direct.
I think we often don't actually want to think for ourselves, and that we'd even allocate resources to avoid it sometimes.
