| LindaH | posted 16-Jun-2007 1:27pm Most of them are red or yellow, but every once in a while, you'll see one custom painted. One in the next neighborhood over is painted like a dalmation. |
| RGirl | posted 16-Jun-2007 2:37pm Don't recall. I'd have to look and I'm not feeling like it. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 16-Jun-2007 2:41pm The hydrants around here are red as well and this is Kremmling, Colorado |
| RainingFeathers | posted 16-Jun-2007 2:43pm Most of them are red, but I've seen yellow and orange ones too. |
| ultamate | posted 16-Jun-2007 3:27pm Ours is red in Spartanburg but I think I have seen bright orange ones before. |
| cloudhugger | posted 16-Jun-2007 3:58pm Red.
I was in some community a few years back where they had the school kids paint them all different colours. One was spotted like a dalmation. Good for the kids to raise awareness about the hydrants but very bad otherwise. They need to be seen and in a hurry by firemen and other vehicles not to block them when they park. I thought it was a pretty lame stupid decision for someone to make. Not well thoght out. |
| llamamama | posted 16-Jun-2007 4:07pm Green tops but a silver body..I believe |
| Enheduanna | posted 16-Jun-2007 4:21pm You know, I'm not sure. I think they're either red or yellow, or maybe both. I'll have to check next time I go out. |
| Melf | posted 16-Jun-2007 4:52pm Other - I know what one is, but we don't have them where I live. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 16-Jun-2007 5:13pm Mostly red or yellow, but there are a few on the U of O campus that have been decorated in a multitude of designs & colors. |
| bill | posted 16-Jun-2007 5:19pm I'm not sure if my town has any... Where I grew up they were red (I think), then they painted them blue. It was very exciting. |
| Amanda | posted 16-Jun-2007 5:23pm Most are red. I've seen yellow ones, but not as many. |
| Otter | posted 16-Jun-2007 6:51pm Red with green caps. Some departments have different colours for the amount of water the hydrant can provide, which is why in some towns you may find different colour combinations on the hydrants. |
| gambler | posted 16-Jun-2007 6:57pm Red |
| paulyw | posted 16-Jun-2007 10:05pm Fire hydrents are mostly red where I live. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 16-Jun-2007 10:34pm And of course they might turn yellow after a dog pees on them |
| romkey | posted 16-Jun-2007 11:36pm There are no fire hydrants where we live. |

| Galomorro | posted 17-Jun-2007 12:21am White with blue tops and caps (whatever you call those connectors on the side) -- except for this ONE fire hydrant. This particular one is painted gold and it gets a new coat of gold paint each year on the anniversary of SF's 1906 quake/fire. The story goes that in this neighborhood the fire was fast approaching and when firefighters ran to this hydrant they found it was still working, and they were able to stop the fire from spreading any further. |
| cabinfever | posted 17-Jun-2007 3:47pm Yellow.
I'd like to see a pink one. |
| LJD | posted 18-Jun-2007 12:47am Yellow |
| Wackadoo | (reply to Otter) posted 18-Jun-2007 8:20am That's interesting, Otter. I wonder if that holds true with most departments? I'll have to ask the next time I'm at the firehall for a pancake breakfast! |
| EyesOfCharisma | posted 18-Jun-2007 6:01pm red, yellow, blue... Some are painted funny... |
| Cain | posted 19-Jun-2007 6:11am I don't think I've ever seen a fire hydrant in Scotland. |
| Zang | posted 19-Jun-2007 12:37pm Unless I haven't been paying attention, it seems to me that they are all red. |
| cerealkiller | posted 19-Jun-2007 2:30pm I'm thinking yellow, but can't say for sure. |
| ausfox | posted 20-Jun-2007 6:22pm We don't have any fire hydrants here |
| RGirl | (reply to ausfox) posted 21-Jun-2007 12:10am Where do the firemen get the water to put out a fire? |
| ausfox | (reply to RGirl) posted 21-Jun-2007 12:45am From water mains, which are laid in the street. As far as I know... Although I think there are some places in Australia with fire hydrants. I'd have to check further, I could be making this all up for all I know! ;) |
| Enigma | posted 24-Jun-2007 11:13pm Red with yellow hats. |
| Biggles | posted 26-Jun-2007 8:40pm There are no fire hydrants here. |
| bvance1011 | posted 6-Jul-2007 3:02am The ones where I live are blue. I believe it is because of the local high school colors. |
