It doesn't taste soapy to me, I just don't like that taste of it very much. But, I will usually still eat suff that has cilantro in it, unless there's a lot of it. |

A friend once gave my family a casserole made with cilantro, and we all thought it tasted like soap. |

Yes, especially in Salsa.. Is Cilantro -Coriander too? but just different names? Im not sure why I thought that... |
| Wackadoo | | posted 15-Jun-2007 10:50am |
Sure do! It's a necessity when making homemade salsa! |

I agree with the people on the link.
It tastes metallic and soapy. I didn't even realize it until we went to a local mexican restaurant that used it in their salsa. Ben pointed out what the taste was... but he likes it. |

I don't know if I like it or not, I think I have had food with it in it.... But I do not remember hating that taste of it, I dunno... I can't believe that there is such a hate for it though, that someone would need to make a web site about it |

Yes, I love the stuff! |
Enheduanna | | posted 15-Jun-2007 12:01pm |
Yes; it's not my favorite and I don't like it just straight, but I do like it in a lot of dishes. |
cerealkiller | | posted 15-Jun-2007 12:21pm |
Not really. Tastes like soap. |
| Amanda | | posted 15-Jun-2007 12:48pm |
It's not a favorite, but I don't totally hate it. |
| RGirl | | posted 15-Jun-2007 3:20pm |
I don't know. I don't know if I've had it. I don't use to cook. |

But I used to dislike it. It tasted soapy and metallic to me but now it tastes great... I'd always heard that the way it tasted was determined by genetics, if so I guess I mutated.
In the last year or so I've come to really appreciate it, and I use it a lot in cooking. |
| filiasan | | posted 15-Jun-2007 4:56pm |
I've come to like it. Before I turned 25, I hated the stuff. |
Iseult | | posted 15-Jun-2007 5:12pm |
I cannot recall what cilantro tastes like. However, according to this one site it tastes like a mix of parsley and citrus, and I like both (in fact, I'll eat parsley on its own), so I imagine cilantro can't be that bad. |
| docgbrown | | posted 15-Jun-2007 5:44pm |
Take it or leave it. I almost never use it in cooking. |

I thought coriander was the name for the seeds, and cilantro was the leaves, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Other. I looooove cilantro. I could eat a fresh cilantro sandwich I love it so much. My Mary hates it...but she'll come around. |
cloudhugger |
Yes. coriander is the seeds, cilantro is the leaves. Also known as Chinese Parsley. |
| cabinfever | | posted 16-Jun-2007 2:05am |
I like it fine. Most times I prefer it in moderation, not piled on like some of the ptomaine wagons do it. |
| cabinfever |
Wow, Cloudy... learn something new every day. Coriander tastes so much different from cilantro. |
cloudhugger |
Yeah, I know...coriander doesn't do it for me. |
SueBee |
Thanks for the info! I don't think I've ever heard it called Chinese parsley before. That's weird, because I don't think of that flavor in Chinese cooking, but I probably don't have a very wide knowledge of Chinese food. I tend to stick with a few restaurant favorites that are surely Americanized. |
| babb001 | | posted 17-Jun-2007 9:34pm |
I love cilantro and could put it in everything or eat it alone. It is very addictive. |
cloudhugger | | (reply to SueBee) posted 17-Jun-2007 10:32pm |
I don't know that chinese use it, I have just heard it refered to as that. I wonder who named it so...? |

It's okay. I don't use it a lot in my own cooking, but I have. It seems rather innocuous to have a full on hatred toward. |

Cilantro/Coriander, I add it to loads of dishes. Its a key ingredient in fresh homemade salsa too. Yum |
