| krazykatlady | posted 31-May-2007 12:24am Either the white noise generated by something like a fan or no noise at all. |
| Pomeranian | posted 31-May-2007 12:25am My favorite is the sound of a fan. In winter months I use a sound-generator that simulates the sound of a fan. |
| Amanda | posted 31-May-2007 12:29am Usually, the sound of a fan is what I'm listening to as I fall asleep. I sleep with a fan on year round.
Of the ones listed, I'd pick distant waves. I love the sound of rain, but sleep better during a good storm than just a gentle rain. |
| Amanda | posted 31-May-2007 12:30am Looks like I'm not the only oddball that likes a fan. |
| Iseult | posted 31-May-2007 1:07am Absence of sound. Everything else is likely to bother me. |
| cabinfever | posted 31-May-2007 1:15am I chose 'other' because there are a lot of things... silence being one of them, if I could ever get my ears to quit ringing. Crackling fire, rain, music, TV, my cat's purring. |
| ausfox | posted 31-May-2007 2:31am Nothing, I like silence |
| bill | posted 31-May-2007 2:53am fathomless soul-wrenching silence |
| bill | (reply to Pomeranian, Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 2:54am I dig the fan too. ...but it has to be a fathomless soul-wrenching fan. |
| LJD | posted 31-May-2007 3:10am Nice survey....five of the sounds mentioned are relaxing. TV and radio are not relaxing to me. |
| Pomeranian | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 3:20am Oh awesome you can't tell a fake-response from a real one |
| cantilever | posted 31-May-2007 4:18am Gentle rain - always will. |
| Melf | posted 31-May-2007 6:34am My computer |
| romkey | posted 31-May-2007 8:07am Peepers. Cat purring. Rain.
Stargate: Atlantis can also send me to sleep but I wouldn't call it relaxing. |
| Enheduanna | posted 31-May-2007 8:53am Rain. The white noise from our air filter works well, too, though. |
| Amanda | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 9:50am You just always have to one up me. |
| judgescratch | posted 31-May-2007 9:52am none |
| bill | (reply to Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 9:58am Impossible, I'm merely trying to keep up with your wit. |
| Amanda | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 10:01am Flattery will get you everywhere. |
| bill | (reply to Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 10:07am Honestly, I think you're really cool/awesome. I'm not even kidding. |
| Amanda | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 10:10am Are you just now figuring this out? I am the coolest and the most awesomest (is that even a word) person you'll ever meet! |
| bill | (reply to Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 10:12am You'll get no argument from me. Don't forget how sexy you are too. Also, a great mother. I'm still not kidding, but I'm going to go back to kidding really soon now. |
| Amanda | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 10:20am Cool. Awesome. Sexy. Great mother. Then, why the hell do I attract butt-hole men? *ponders a while* |
| bill | (reply to Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 10:55am My guess is that you may not truly realize how great you are and thus you haven't always made the best man-choices. This is perhaps why I'm motivated to keep telling you how great you are. Though, I worry that my efforts may backfire if you keep assuming I'm kidding. You're great and you deserve someone who is also great as an SO. You should be picky; you shouldn't settle. Sure, you're going to attract some butt-holes, that comes with the territory (of being great). You may have to go after someone who is great because they may not realize you're great too. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 31-May-2007 12:07pm The weather outside like the wind or the rain a nice cool night and goodbye I am asleep |
| Amanda | (reply to bill) posted 31-May-2007 1:38pm Awww. I decided a while back not to settle. Some of my friends have asked me why I don't settle down with this guy or that guy. There are a couple of guys that would take care of me and my son. I wouldn't have to worry about paying the bills, etc. But, I know how these guys are and I'd rather struggle than be in an unhappy relationship for the sake of financial security. I've learned that I'm happier being alone than I am being in a bad and/or dead end relationship. I woke up one morning and realized that I deserve the best and that's all I'm going to accept. I'll date guys, but I refuse to get seriously involved with anyone until I've been around them a lot and know what they're about. As soon as I see red flags, I stop all contact and vanish. I think there's someone great out there for me, but I'm not actively searching for him. He'll show up sometime. Or he won't. Either way, I'm going to be happy. Thanks for your support. It really means a lot. |
| Jody | posted 31-May-2007 2:19pm I usually sleep with earplugs, so silence would be my choice. |
| LindaH | posted 31-May-2007 2:21pm Silence is best. Rain isn't too bad. |
| bill | (reply to Amanda) posted 31-May-2007 2:40pm Well, I'm glad to hear it. |
| cerealkiller | posted 31-May-2007 5:33pm Twinkles (one of my cats) purring as she massages my hair. Does this every night. |
| EyesOfCharisma | posted 31-May-2007 5:33pm i prefer no sound, but can fall asleep pretty well watching tv, so i picked other. |

> hell do I attract butt-hole men? *ponders a while* No offense, but part of the problem is where you live. I lived in MS for 18 months and didn't see any local men who I'd call civilized or modern. |
| Galomorro | posted 31-May-2007 7:08pm I like hearing rain. |
| Amanda | (reply to cerealkiller) posted 31-May-2007 7:38pm I've traveled to a number of states. Mississippi's really not much different than any of them. The people aren't much different. There are people from all walks of life, no matter where you're at. |
| mrmarm | posted 31-May-2007 7:52pm The sound of my fan, (even when it's cold and / or Winter) or the inconvenience of having an animal in my room. |
| they | posted 31-May-2007 8:30pm A hard rainstorm/thunder/lightening storm. |
| they | (reply to jen) posted 31-May-2007 9:26pm Yeah... guess not I stopped liking those types of storms for a while when I was living in a trailer in NC. Now that I'm back up North in a HOUSE.... I like it again. |
| cloudhugger | posted 31-May-2007 9:41pm Distant waves I think out of the suggestions...otherwise I like the distant sound of highway traffic. |
| gazelda1 | posted 31-May-2007 9:53pm wind and rain |
| RGirl | posted 1-Jun-2007 6:45pm Thunder storm. I like rolling thunder, not too close. I have a really nice CD that plays one. |
| docgbrown | posted 2-Jun-2007 3:50am Silence |
| Zang | posted 2-Jun-2007 1:37pm My absolute favourite is listening to old radio shows like "The Whistler". You can download them for free here:
http://zootradio.com/phpBB2/ It's a free membership site, but you have to join to download. It's all public domain, so no worries about copyright infringement or anything like that. Next to that would be French chamber music from the late 19th and early 20th century. Debussy, Roussel, Ravel, Satie... |
| Nudist | posted 2-Jun-2007 5:08pm That will put me in dream land every time |
| ultamate | posted 2-Jun-2007 11:37pm Mostly no sound at all but when I'm having trouble sleeping, gentle rain, crackling fire with frogs, crickets and bird sounds. I have a nature CD and it helps me sleep when I'm stressed out. I have a hypnosis tape too that really helps me fall asleep. |
| Biggles | posted 5-Jun-2007 11:11pm I used to love listening to the stream outside when I was little. Then we got double glazing *sigh* |
| gambler | posted 13-Jun-2007 9:28pm Though I have fallen asleep to the TV and such.......... Silence is best for me I guess |
| Enigma | posted 8-Jul-2007 11:30pm The best ever is an open window when it's raining. The sound and the smell. Sigggghhhhh.... |
