| RGirl | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:14pm More like I found out just how much my friends cared about me. It was when I was 15 and attempted suicide. I was in the hospital for a month. I called a friend from there and he totally went off on me. Called me a dog. Why? Because he was the one who had to tell Courtney who was supposed to have been my best friend. She was devastated and could only go on wondering why I didn't come to her. I had no idea she really cared, besides, I had moved away. I thought I'd been dumped by everyone because I lived too far away and phone calls were long distance. |
| Biggles | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:30pm Nothing specific. I think I know who my real friends are, without something awful needing to happen. |
| ultamate | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:44pm Yes. When I got pregnant with my son and stopped going to bars among other things. Also recently after my Dad passed away. |

| jettles | posted 1-May-2007 5:37am yes, when my mom died. it was a profound experience as far as my friends were concerned. |
| Enheduanna | posted 1-May-2007 9:04am Not a major experience, no. But sometimes a small thing will let me know that someone is my real friend. Mostly it's just something that happens with time, though. |
| Amanda | posted 1-May-2007 1:19pm Yes. I've had two that I considered to be major.
The first is when my mom started getting really sick. I moved back home to help take care of her. I lost several friends and a boyfriend with that one. They felt I had rejected them and pushed them off to the side. But, my mom was more important than any friends. My real friends understood what I was going through and stood by my side. The second was more recently. I went through several tough things. Bad break-up. Even worse rebound relationship. Health problems. Major financial issues. I was a total mess for a while. Totally depressed. It was awful. Instead of running to my friends, I built up walls around myself. I think my real friends are the ones that tried to knock the walls down instead of seeing the walls and walking away. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 1-May-2007 1:53pm Yes and now I do know who my real friends are |
| cloudhugger | posted 1-May-2007 3:56pm Yes. when I almost died from an illness. My so called best friend said I was too high maintenance. My family didn't *ahem* want to bother me and my boyfriend didn't come around or call. I must have depressed him. I found I had one friend who was there for me at least every other day. She would call, or come get me to take me out shopping or something. She was a true blue friend. This lasted a year and a half or so. |
