| bill | posted 30-Apr-2007 6:48am I think I may have read a book or two twice, but none three times... but, it was probably by mistake. |
| dab | posted 30-Apr-2007 7:27am It's probably Lord of the Rings and I'd guess half a dozen times. |
| judgescratch | posted 30-Apr-2007 9:21am This generally doesn't apply. |
| romkey | posted 30-Apr-2007 11:48am I've read Samuel R. Delaney's Dhalgren three times. I think I've read The Lord of the Rings trilogy three times. Twice, at least.
I might read Dhalgren one more time someday. I don't tend to like rereading books. I'd rather read ones I've never read before... I haven't read most books, after all. |
| they | posted 30-Apr-2007 3:02pm Either The Postman, Anne of Green Gables Series, The Stand, or Whispers. |

| RainingFeathers | posted 30-Apr-2007 3:52pm I don't reread books. I don't enjoy reading something when I already know what is going to happen. Plus, there are so many other books out there that I could be reading instead. |
| ausfox | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:27pm The book I read the most was Flowers In The Attic. I must have read it at least half a dozen times when I was a teenager |
| RGirl | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:28pm Little Women. First read it when I was 10 or 11. Got a special copy from my grandparents. I still read it on occasion. It the first 'novel' I read. I have read it 12 or more times in my lifetime. Coming in next is the Harry Potter series about 3 times read if I count all of them. |
| Biggles | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:50pm It must My Side of the Mountain by Jean George - I used to read it all the way through and then flip back to the front and start reading it again. I have no idea how many times I read it - maybe 50? A close second would be the book of the TV series Robin of Sherwood - I had a major Robin Hood obsession when I was young! I probably read that (four books in one) a good 20-30 times. I've reread other books, but only 3/4 times maximum (except Biggles - I've read some of those 10+ times). Most of the books I have reread have been for children - probably the only adult fiction I have reread would be Cadfael, Sharpe, a few classics like Rebecca or Jane Eyre...a couple of others. All that makes me sound like a rereading freak, but I actually don't do it all that often anymore (well, just Biggles and Cadfael) but when I do it's a bit like comfort eating - I want to settle down witha book that I know I can enjoy and that has enough to interest me a second (or 22nd) time around. |
| Galomorro | posted 30-Apr-2007 5:57pm I don't know how many times I've read it but rarely have I read it cover-to-cover. It's a walkers' reference book and there have been various editions, "Stairway Walks in San Francisco." Its long out-of-print predecessor by the same author was called "Stairway Walks in Los Angeles" which latter I've read at least 3 times years ago. |
| cerealkiller | posted 30-Apr-2007 6:00pm Don't see the need to read a book more than once, or even once anymore. Same with movies for the most part, once is enough. Only movie I never tire of watching over and over is Halloween. |
| filiasan | posted 30-Apr-2007 7:26pm The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (full collection in one) |
| thecomic22 | posted 30-Apr-2007 8:17pm I dont read much anymore. |
| dab | (reply to Biggles) posted 30-Apr-2007 8:27pm I really liked that book too. Did you know there's a sequel, "On the Far Side of the Mountain"? I found it totally unexpectedly when I was once browsing a used book store. |
| cabinfever | posted 30-Apr-2007 8:33pm I've read 'The Lady' by Anne McCaffrey waaaaayy more than ten times. |

| docgbrown | posted 1-May-2007 3:33am As a child, the same books were read very frequently to myself, my siblings and my parents. Now my son is doing the same to my wife and I. |
| docgbrown | (reply to they) posted 1-May-2007 3:35am > Either The Postman, Anne of Green Gables Series, The Stand, or Whispers.
I loved the Anne of Green Gables Series too. Did you read her daughter's (Emily's) books that followed? |
| they | (reply to docgbrown) posted 1-May-2007 7:11am No I didn't. I was going to... the last time I read through the series, but was over the urge by the time I was through with the Anne books... I'll have to look the Emily books up at the library next time I go. I'm pretty sure Enheduanna has read those though.

| Enheduanna | posted 1-May-2007 9:31am Not counting little children's books that you read every night before bed, it would have to be Anne of Green Gables. I'm not sure how many times I've read it, but at a guess I'd say at least 8, if not 10. |
| Enheduanna | I have indeed read the Emily books. They're just a separate series though; nothing to do with anyone's daughter. They're good, but not as good as the Anne books. I think I've read almost everything L. M. Montgomery ever wrote; some years ago there was a big flurry of publishing every previously-unpublished short story she'd ever written. Those got kind of repetitive and tedious after a while, so I gave up. But I've read all her novels, and many of the short stories as well. |
| Iseult | posted 1-May-2007 10:46am Probably one of the books from the Harry Potter series. I've lost the count of how many times, but probably over 10. |
| Danger | posted 1-May-2007 12:40pm I have read Matilda by Roald Dahl more times than I can count, certainly more than ten. I reread books a lot. When I was in elementary school for a couple months I made it a point to read Matilda as every other book (e.g. Matilda, BFG, Matilda, Babysitters Club, Matilda, etc.). And I always had my nose in a book - I went through four or five of them a week. I still read it when I want to laugh. |
| icurok | posted 1-May-2007 12:56pm "Dear Zoo" by Rod Campbell. I must've read that at least 5 times a week over the last year. |
| Zang | posted 1-May-2007 6:41pm I have no idea. That isn't the sort of thing I keep track of. |
| docgbrown | (reply to they) posted 1-May-2007 7:37pm I have all of both series but, I never made it that far either. I loved the first few Anne books when I started reading them and rereading them but I could never finish Anne's series-let alone complete Emily's. Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself;
How did you first discover the Anne of Green Gables series of books? |
| they | (reply to docgbrown) posted 1-May-2007 7:40pm I watched the movie on PBS. I'd love to own a copy of it myself, or catch it on TV... but it never seems to come on anymore. |
| docgbrown | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 1-May-2007 7:40pm Two questions;
How did you first discover the Anne of Green Gables series of books? Since you have read so much of her, what was your favorite work of L. M. Montgomery? |
| Enheduanna | (reply to docgbrown) posted 1-May-2007 8:50pm I think my mother must have gotten the first book for me. I'm not sure if she had read them when she was little, or if she'd just heard about them somewhere.
The Anne books are far and away my favorite of Montgomery's work; I think the first book is my overall favorite, although I'm partial to Anne of the Island as well. |
| Enigma | posted 1-May-2007 11:25pm The Bible (believe it or not) |
| docgbrown | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 2-May-2007 2:34am Either great minds think alike or those were her two best of the series. Thank you. |

| cloudhugger | posted 11-May-2007 5:10pm I read this one book about 3 times, but that was so long ago I don't remember which one it was. |
| kitti723 | posted 17-May-2007 1:03am "A Hole Is to Dig" by Ruth Krauss & narrated by Maurice Sendak. I love children's books. I also love "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein, it makes me cry every time. I must have read them both countless times. |
| Night21wolf | posted 19-May-2007 9:07am I have read the whole edge chronicles series about 13 times they are really great! |
| Melf | posted 20-May-2007 1:37pm Incompetence by Rob Grant. I think I've read it four times. I've read the Harry Potter up to (and including) GoF three times. I've read the beginning of Thief of Time and Night Watch by Terry Pratchett about five times |
| Cain | posted 25-May-2007 1:43pm The Alchemist's Cat by Robin Jarvis, I've read it 4 times. |
| Cain | (reply to cabinfever) posted 25-May-2007 1:45pm Do you read the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey? I absolutely love those stories, she has created my ideal world! |
| cabinfever | (reply to Cain) posted 26-May-2007 1:43am I was impressed by her use of language and the way she could describe scenes without taking pages to do it. But I haven't read any of her Pern series.... I have thought about it, but I just haven't done it. I had a friend in school who was really into those books... she lived for the next one to come out. I'm just not as into reading fantasy, I guess.... but then, I haven't really tried. |
| Cain | (reply to cabinfever) posted 26-May-2007 1:36pm Her use of language extends into her fantasy series - she doesn't get all flowery and go overtop with her world, it just is, if you know what I mean. They're well worth a read, if you get the chance.... |
| chumpsrock | posted 27-May-2007 1:28pm The only book that I can remember reading several times recently is Superfoods Healthstyle. It is my food bible. I've read it twice in its entirety and consult it often. |
