I look the other way while the needle is going in because I'm afraid I might flinch, but I really don't mind getting shots. What bothers me is watching other people get shots. Major heebie jeebies!

Not one iota, I tend to be curiously watching as the needle slides into my arm.

I'm terrified by them, I HATE needles... even in movies, when I see them, I feel as though I'm going to pass out.. I really cant stand them. I passed out when my dog was getting a shot even... They scare the hell out of me. Just the thought of them make me feel nauseous...

Other: Hell yes and hell no. After getting 8 huge shots to the bone on each big toe when I was 14 for surgery, I was scared to death of ever having shots again, but I've had so many blood tests over the years, that I don't really care about regular shots anymore. Those are fun. I had to give my first cat IV fluids twice a day, plus a regular shot twice a week for anemia, so shooting someone doesn't bother me either. Also, I can't ever donate blood, because I don't weigh enough.

No problem. I used to donate blood until I moved into a high risk group (is that like a bad area?).

The last time I had blood taken, I watched the whole thing and had no fear. In the past, I'd had some, but it's gone now I guess.

Barely notice them. I try to donate blood once in awhile, but there's always some reason for turning me down. Got to do it once in high school. Had one dental injection that felt like my mouth was electrified, didn't have a warning to block that sensation. I get a hormone in the bum every two weeks.

I hum the "Star Spangled Banner" when I recieve a shot...I find that if I distract myself in a silly way, it becomes effortless. The nurses at my doctor's office chuckle a bit when they see me; one even said "Look, its the Star Spangled Banner guy!". Not quite sure why I use picked the "Star Spangled Banner" though.

I used the same trick on my kids that my mom taught. When picking out a splinter or something, I had then clench a TV guide in their teeth and roar like a tiger.

I look the other way when they take blood b/c I hate to see it fill the little containers. They always ask "are you okay?"

It grosses me out when they take blood from me, I can actually feel it coming out of my veins... Whenever I'm asked when the last time I had a tetanus shot was... I lie.

No sweat with needles. Dentists' needles used to frighten the hell out of me, especially since the Dentist we had in our small town while I was growing up was a butcher, but lately, I've had no trouble.

I was fine until I was about 8 and the tech in the hospital told me the finger stick would not hurt. Since then I have hated all needles. I still donate blood though.

I used to have an intense fear of needles. There's just something about breaching your body's integrity. As I really don't like having fears like that I've kind of gone past that now...

I love dental procedures that involve needles. My Dental Hygenist is a beautiful woman who gets nervous when administering novocaine so her breathing becomes rapid and her chest heaves...WOW! all the time I'm feeling delicious pain and pressure and spreading numbness as I recline beneath her staring into her goggles and snorting sweet vanilla nitrous.....

I also donate blood pretty regularly and have had numerous blood tests in the past because of my diabetes.

I'm not afraid of needles, but I still hate having blood drawn because it takes so long for them to find a vein. You should see them poking around in my arm for about 10 minutes trying to find one. Hope that wasn't too graphic. * laughing out loud *

Needles don't bother me, although I do look the other way when I receive an injection. I used to donate blood regularly in college when I lived in the States. I have yet to donate blood in Hong Kong.

I forgot about tattoos. I suppose I don't really think of tattoo needles as actually being needles. They are short and vibrate and don't inject very deeply. I enjoy being tattooed.

Needles are no problem at all. Blood is a major major issue. So, I donate blood, and I'm less panicky each time (marginally, at least).

I had that too, they....You'll get through it, I promise. Just eat sensibly ...get plenty of exercise and your sugars will stay in check. I was on a strict program(diet and exercise...no insulin)for diabetes control while pregnant, it kept the baby and me healthy and I gained a minimal amount of weight because I was eating healthy and exercizing daily. I ended up weighing less after my daughter was born than I weighed when I found out I was pregnant.

I have been reading a lot about diabetes lately(I have typeII adult onset)and I am coming to the conclusion that for me personally, my lifetime of bad eating habits(refined sugars and a large amount of carbohydrates)may have actually caused the diabetes onset. Something known as insulin resistance. Since eating low carbs and cutting out refined sugars my diabetes has been in much better control.

Some books to consider:
Diabetes without fear by Joseph I. Goodman
Dr. Bernsteins Diabetes Solution
and
Sugar Busters

Good Luck sweetie...hang in there!

I have an unusually sensitive elbow. I am also double-jointed. Maybe they're related. I can get shots with no problem, but having blood taken from the inside of my elbow usually makes me either throw up or pass out. I can't even handle being lightly touched there. It's very odd.

I've never been afraid of needles, not even as a kid. I reakon if you look away, take a deep breath and think something else you'll be fine. I had a blood test last year, I was a bit freaked out because I hadn't had one before, but the nurse just kept me talking and thinking about other things and I was fine. Went to the doctors yesterday with a real sore throat had to have a penicillin shot in my rear end. I though that it could be quiet painfull but it wasn't. The nurse said when there would be a little prick and a bit of pressure and told me to wriggle my toes. I was fine, it didn't hurt at all. The next day I had another one, it was a little more unpleasant because of the nurse doing it, she just did it without any real warning. But hey, I survived. I always a flu shot every year this year I had pneumonia shot as well. So as you can see I am definately not afraid of needles, I shouldn't be I am 19. Adding on abit here, I founf that my throat infetion in a tumour, the ENT guy had to do a needle biopsy. The lump is at the back if my mouth, so he sprays on anesthetic and then sinks in the needle and didn't even feel it, I wa sure it should have hurt. He repeated the procces 4 times and the fourth time really hurt. Once he had finished he was sure I should have been tears and the receptionist was waiting for the screams. Huh

If it will make you feel any better, they don't give you the shots to prevent rabies in your abdomen/stomach any more. They give them to you in the arm.
