Are you a wilfer?

You are checking your emails when you start daydreaming about where to go on your summer holiday.
This reminds you to compare the cost of local gyms. Then you suddenly decide to look up venues for your birthday party.
You may think you are browsing the internet in a slightly absent-minded manner. You are, in fact, "wilfing", a rough acronym of What Was I Looking For.

According to a survey for a financial website, almost seven in 10 internet users admit to the newly named habit.

I'm going with no. Every once in a while, I'm like that. But, usually, when I get online, there's certain things I do, in a certain order.

Maybe occasionally. But in general, I'd say no.

No. When I switch gears, I open new browser tabs. It may result in me having over 10 tabs open at a time, but I never have to wonder what I was doing.

Where is the * check * for "On occasion, I may perhaps wilfer a bit, only to realize I have picked up a newly named bad habit and resume what I was doing" ?

I don't understand the explanation.

I do this on purpose with the internet, that's how I come across interesting websites. One thing leads to another. For me, it doesn't start as daydreaming I do it as a matter of course.

I can be a good writer, and then again I cannot be a good writer.

Sure am!! And I don't just do it on the internet.... doing household chores is a biggie for me.... start doing the dishes and fill the drainer, so I go to start some laundry while the dishes dry so I can put them away and do another load, and after loading the washing machine I see the cat boxes need scooped and then I remember to give Booger his medication and give him and Taz some canned food as a treat and then see the water dish needs fresh water.... upon returning with the newly-filled water dish, I see litter and food scattered on the floor so I start sweeping the laundry room, and then decide that I might as well do the kitchen too....my kid runs through the kitchen, scattering my newly-swept dirt pile everywhere. Then I see the now-dry dishes in the drainer and the still-soaking dishes in dishwater that has gone cold... so as I run a new tub of hot dishwater, I put away the dry dishes. Oooops, the clothes are done... got to put them in the dryer and start another load. My kid yells that she can't find SpongeBob on TV, so I go in and find the program, and end up sitting with her for an episode. Upon getting up from the couch, I see that the area rugs need vacuumed. After vacuuming, the clothes dryer buzzes. Fold laundry, put clothes from washer into dryer... run folded clothes upstairs, and remember that I haven't taken my medication yet. While in my bathroom, I see that the toilet bowl needs scrubbed, and end up cleaning the bathroom.... I run downstairs and realize that the dishwater has gone cold again.....

If this is a milfer than I guess I am. Quite so and I can be very erratic about my movements through the day. A sight triggers an action but much of the time I don't finish the tasks because I see something else and forget the previous ones. I am happy to say though that lately it hasn't been like that too much. It is more like what you describe and I finish things and can even remember something I have to do through the day. I'm pretty happy about that.

Absent-minded? Heck yeah! I'm spacing out ALL THE TIME! But I find that meandering helps me find new things. No one likes being in a rut.

I am, but it's intentional - I can spend hours on the internet just mosying about - I'd rather do that than watch TV if I've got spare time and no good books to read.

Yes, I am but not because of the internet. My mind is just constantly jumping from one thing to another. The internet just makes it easier to wilf, I suppose.

Nope, I tired of the internet long ago.
