I think it's been pretty much the same, on average, as it has been for the last several years. I wish the media would start reporting some GOOD stuff that people do, instead of glorifying all the shootings and dumb crap that happens.

I don't think it is on the rise. I think we have traded some kinds of crime for new ones. I'd say it about the same more or less.

No, I don't crime is on the rise. In fact, I think it has either stayed the same or fallen slightly, and I am willing to bet that statistics confirm my belief (then again some comp stat fraud was discovered). I just think that the media covers crime more extensively than they did in the past so it creates the illusion that crime is on the rise. Fear mongering never fails in getting good ratings.

I haven't seen statistics recently, but my impression is that crime declined quite a bit in the last decade or so. It's possible that it has risen some since then, but I assume only slightly and that overall we're doing better. On the other hand, I think the news media often seem to misrepresent crime rates (upward) because it gets people's attention.

I don't know. Look into the census statistics, see what they say. They probably know better than I do.

Jobs being moved out of the country, putting more people out of work gives reasons for desperate decisions.

I think you've got a good point there.

I haven't looked at recent statistics, but the last time I looked, and it was only "violent crimes", it was still rising fairly steadily, but hadn't reached the peak of the 1920s.

What's to blame for it? Well the above might give you some clue. What happened in the US in the 1920s? Prohibition! The reason is the so-called "War on Drugs". The only reason violent crime still hasn't reached those peaks of the 1920s, is that organised crime is a lot more sophisticated now. They are smarter. They went to college. And they actually learned something from their past mistakes. Funny the US government can't do that! Or is it just that they have no incentive? * raspberry *

The numbers show everything is actually down - compared to our overall population.

Kinda broad question - what aspect of crime? In general, non-violent crimes, violent crimes, organized crimes, blue collar, white collar, cities, towns, rural areas, what??

Yes. The president. Our economy is very near to collapsing, there is little hope for an end to a war with no reasonable reason to be there in the first place. Our leaders are untrustworthy and banks screwed us over for loans they couldn't afford, people are having a difficult time making ends meet so they are looking at extremes.

Would you think crime was on the rise if you didn't watch the evening news?

That's actually not true. Many Right Wing talk show hosts have tried to claim but have never had any evidence to back it up.
