I wouldn't be happy about it. I'd probably try to talk to her about the dangers of it. The ultimate decision would be hers, though. I know, from experience, that telling your daughter they can't date someone only pushes them further into his arms.

We have some mysterious vandalizer around here who calls himself "Cheddar Bob."

How old is she? I'll with teen 14-17 ish. The usual, talk about why it is a bad idea, ask her about drug use and birth control. If she insists on seeing this guy and I feel it is a dangerous situation I would forbid her to see him but this could just backfire. I might bribe her. I'll get you a new iPod if you dump that dude.

When I think of the crap I gave my parents, esp mom, I cringe. Daughters do suck. I was actually a good kid as far as getting into trouble and keeping up my grades but I had a nasty smart ass attitude most of the time.

I'd be shocked that I was so uninvolved in my daughter's life that I didn't already know this.

Internally, I'd be freaking out, because I will have instilled in her the kinds of values that would keep her away from such scum. Externally, I'd sit her down and ask why she finds him attractive, and caution her again about the dangers of being involved with a gang.... and if she didn't break up with him within a week or two, I'd have to intervene another way.
I do have to say, that is one of the few good things about this craphole burg. Haven't seen a gang's hand signal, graffiti, or any other signs of them so far.

My dad used to be down right paranoid about me. I was the only girl. He wouldn't let me wear a bikini. He would say things like 'boys sniffing around here' that always made me cringe. Uh, no it ain't the boys you need to worry about dad!

I've failed

I have a daughter?!!

Tell the daughter that I am going to talk to the boy. I am going to reason with him that if he wants to date my daughter he must make a choice. Either that family or mine. If she or he balks, the dates are off. I believe in the best of kids, till they show me they do not care.

Secretly hope that he either a) got killed by a rival gang or the police, b) thrown in prison, or c) got out of it. I would out loud wish c.

First question: Jet or Shark?

I would pick my family up and move away to the country and get her involved in things where there were good guys and get her in counseling....My girls lives are worth far more than anything i would be giving up. I have heard of far too many girls getting beat, killed or stuck in super bad situations due to dating a guy like that. And I would make sure we moved far enough away from it......I would watch her like a hawk and she would probably hate me for it...but later it would be worth it...I might even go as far as sending her to live with her grandpa who is a detective for a while.

If she's still a minor, we'd be having a long talk. If she was an adult, I'd let her know that I was concerned, but other than that, I wouldn't get involved.

I'd get my boys together and do a drive by.

I'd pop a cap in his punk ass.
