Yep. I'm skeptical about people's motives when they confront adults about rude/inappropriate behavior in public.

Lots of things. You probably want me to say something controversial though. I'm sceptical about the dangers of environmental tobacco smoke. How's that? *raspberry*

The 'war on terror'. That there is a conspiracy involving the liberals and a one world order. Paranormal and ESP type stuff. I am sometimes right there with it or I am scoffing it.

Hm... I'm wondering what you are thinking of exactly.

It made me think of times when I am in public with my kid and hear another adult cursing or speaking inappropriately in front of mine and other kids... Often, I think I would like to call them out... point out what they are doing. But my motive would only be to embarrass or shame them... My kid hears curse words all the time and to us, words really aren't a big deal... so it's not like they are offending her poor little ears. So maybe that's what you meant.

Anyway... As much as I fantasize about saying things to people who use trashy words in front of my kid, I never would do it. I'm not ballsy enough to confront anyone.

The whole global warming furor is probably wrong on most of its points and almost certainly overblown even if it's partly right. And I seriously doubt that most of the actions taken since 9/11 with the stated intent of making us more secure actually make us any more secure.

What am I not skeptical about?! It's funny, on the one hand I am very idealistic and optimistic. But when it comes down to actual situations, I am often skeptical about people and their motivations and intentions.

That's good that you don't say anything. I think embarrassing/shaming adults (when it comes to things that can easily be shrugged off) does no good. Teens might benefit, and maybe on rare ocassions, young adults (early 20's). After that, people are who they are. Getting called on things is only to the satisfaction of the 'caller'. That's probably why so many people fantasize about it.

The American dream, the joys of motherhood, the state of women's fertility rights in VA, the societal norm (in that, everyone is going crazy). Diet fads, get-rich-quick ads, monster.com (but that has more to do with where I am than what the site is about). Webcams, online lotto scams, online dating sites, the fate of the dating world. Oh! And ebay.

(You can also add southernyankee's list to my own.)

Adulthood gives you plenty of time to grow skeptical.

Skeptical about all men? How so? I must confess it feels wierd being a part of a blanket target.
cabinfever
(reply to docgbrown) posted 8-Apr-2007 12:06am

All men except one: my grandpa. Every other man on the planet I am skeptical about because of my personal experience with them, and all the problems they cause, and all the crimes they commit, etc. I know it's not fair, but life's not fair... and it's a terrible dog of a teacher. While I know that several men here on the SC will take umbrage to my comments because they feel that they have presented themselves well here, I don't want them to take it personally. If I remember correctly, docg, you are a military man, and I'm more likely to like and trust you because of that, but I wouldn't fully trust you until I knew you personally for a number of years. Again, please don't take that personally, it's just some painful life lessons talking.
docgbrown
(reply to cabinfever) posted 8-Apr-2007 8:25am

I see. Hopefully the rest of your life's journey is less painful then the low moments of the past and the peaks of tomorrow leave previous peaks in its shadow. One thing I look forward to here at SC is that we are enabled to display our frank honesty. Thanks for being so patient and honest when you could have taken the politically correct route.
cabinfever
(reply to docgbrown) posted 8-Apr-2007 2:34pm

That is a sweet sentiment, thank you. I love the SC for the same reasons. As for being patient, I sure try... and as for being honest, that's the only way I know. Being untruthful takes too much effort. I'm not very good at the whole 'PC' thing. I also find that sometimes the 'politically correct' route isn't totally truthful. Not to mention....... boring. *wink*
