I didn't. I was supposed to at one point, but we figured it's cheaper and easier just to get that tooth pulled out because it was one of the molars. I would've had to have like an operation and and then it was too much work. Now I have two teeth less than an average person.

I had to have four regular teeth removed before I got my braces to make room. I had two teeth up high on my gums and to bring them down they had to remove some. It was a big mess and pain in the ass.

Almost 4 years, and I needed a lot of extensive dental work done. I had rabbit's teeth.

From the age of 9...but I don't remember how old I was when I stopped. Probably about 12 - so that's three years.

See, I had a tooth growing on the inside of my mouth and it was just easier to pull that one out.

How long did you have to wear a retainer for, because I only needed to wear braces for 5 or 6 months and I don't know how long I 'am going to have to wear them at night for.

Was it a tooth that had been crowed and just ended up in the wrong place or was it a completely extra tooth? I've heard of people that have extra teeth.

I ended up wearing a retainer for as long as I could stand it. It was a year or two. I hated it and eventually I just stopped and after a while it didn't even fit (which is bad, I guess). But, my teeth are OK.

I don't think it was an extra tooth because there is a hole now.

I didn't wear braces. I didn't need them. Instead, the dentist pulled some of my teeth so there would be enough room. I kind of had big teeth/small mouth thing going on. I don't think braces would have helped.

My brother could have used them. He has a pretty serious over-bite. His eldest daughter had one too. All his kids have worn braces.

I think my parents were too cheap to pay for orthodontia when we were kids. They were too busy putting all their money into investments so that they could retire at 52, buy three homes and spend their lives traveling and having a good time. Sure, we lived on spam and wore hand-me-downs, but it was worth it. * grin *

That really is a shame. We were pretty poor coming to that age and I was ecstatic to find out I would be getting braces. I hated my teeth so much I avoided smiling. I was willing to endure anything to fix it. My brother was supposed to get them to but he refused but his problem wasn't quite as dramatic.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. My teeth are fine. My brother has an over-bite, but I don't think there's really anything so terrible about that.
RGirl
(reply to Zang) posted 20-Mar-2007 2:59pm
Well, maybe for you. I couldn't smile without looking like a vampire. Also, crowded crooked teeth are more difficult to keep properly cleaned and a deviated bite can cause a person to grind &/or clench their teeth causing unnecessary wear and tear on the teeth and joints.
