Only Disney World, and I wasn't very impressed... I think Paramount parks are better.

Disney land, and I wasn't too impressed. In fact, I was kind of disappointed since when I was younger I dreamed about how great it would be, and really, it was kind of crappy.

I have been to Disneyland twice. The first time my SO took me while we were secret lovers. We were both still married to our husbands and trying to decide if we could possibly get away and have a life together. We took the trip and it was amazing and magical. We took the train all romance and movement. On the train ride home as we neared Seattle, I looked at her and my heart sank knowing that we would have to part and go home to our respective houses and husbands. It was then I knew she was IT for me. The one I'd always waited for and dreamed of and that my marriage was a mistake that had to be ended. So..... end it I did :) I never imagined the bliss that one decision would bring me.

The second time my SO and I took our Mallory, my Mum, sister and nephew.

Disneyland holds very special meaning for me because of that first trip.

My daughter has also been to Disneyworld with her daddy.

I've been to Disneyland several times (5 or 6?) over the years and it's a very special place for me. Went to DisneyWorld once in the mid-80s. Epcot had some neat stuff, but I still prefer the original Disneyland in California. Knowing some of the "secrets" of the park and how to avoid the longest lines definitely helps make it more enjoyable.

My family took my sister and me to Disneyland about three times before we were cognizant. We had gone about five or six times before we took a DisneyWorld cruise and spent about 7 days down in Florida. It was the worst vacation I ever had. Only one other Asian family on that entire boat, plus it was my first time encountering such severe hot and humid weather. It also opened my eyes to the incredible rift between class and race, seeing how all the passengers and crew interacted between themselves and with us. Not a happy time.

Fooyun - I'm horrified to hear that you had trouble like that. I like to think that prejudices are fading, but apparently our society hasn't come as far as I'd hoped. It makes me mad that people are so stupid! Disney usually really pounds customer service into their employees' heads, so it's shocking to me that you feel they didn't treat you well. What a bunch of jerks! * frown *

Not since 1977. 'Space-mountain' was new, but didn't compare to Haunted house, pirates, mars, peter-pan, & swiss-family.

Much of my life was shaped by a visit to Disneyland at age five. I spent years studying WED enterprises, animation, engineering, etc.

I went to Disney World repeatedly in my childhood as my family would drive down to Florida every couple years in the station wagon. I've even gone back later after I got out of college, and I'd love to go back now. Mike said there's a "gay day" at one of the disneys - I think that would be fun to go to (he said straight/gay-friendlies are also welcome).

I heard about Space Mountain when I was little and gew up dreaming of someday going to Disney so I could ride it. Hasn't happened yet. Is it still there? Does it even compare to the coasters of today?

I got to go to Disney World when I was 12. Space Mountain was the first, and last, roller coaster I will EVER go on. I can *still* remember the song from General Electric's "Carousel of Progress"... (Now is the time...now is the best time....now is the best time of your life...). And after Space Mountain, we went on this moving walkway and saw "life in the future" which included (I kid you not!) large laser/ VideoDiscs playing on wall-size TV screens, and people viewing catalog stuff on large TV screens and ordering it over the phone....I suppose this was way futuristic in 1975.

drdt - The cool thing about Space Mountain is that it's inside a dark building with "outerspace" effects. Personally I think it's over-rated. I prefer Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and The Indiana Jones Adventure is really fun, too.

Jody - Wow! You were there about 10 years before me! The thing I remember that was cool then and way outdated now was a computer you could give voice commands to in order to guide a cartoon mouse through a maze on the screen. It would be considered primitive today!

What's the name of that ride in Disneyworld that when you look in the mirror, there is a ghost sitting next to you?

Oh my god, was that you again?
Gee when i went to the carousel, all they had to offer was mechanical excercise belts, ice makers, and stepford wives, but no one caught that one.

they - that's in the Haunted Mansion, I think. I also remember an omni-theatre-type-ride called "If You Had Wings", and the PeopleMover was waycool! I'm sure it's all different now, though. They've even removed the wench-chasing pirates in the Pirates of the Caribbean (I think they could have stayed if they had added pirate-chasing wenches, or female pirates chasing barboys).

SB: that is what sounded so cool. Wasn't also one of the first steel coasters?

Jody- I think there was a chasing wench. As I recall, it was a ring, and who was chasing who was somewhat opened to interpretation. Sad to hear it's gone. Holocaust and Stalin didn't exist either.
they- to further explain. I was freaked out by the ghost of a pregnant woman on my bed. Next comment i stumbled upon was yours.

drdt - I don't know whether Space Mountain was one of the first steel coasters. It's a strange feeling in the dark not knowing which direction you're going to turn next, or whether you're about to go up or down. But if you let your eyes get used to the dark you can kind of see. Maybe that's what ruined it for me.

Space Mountain was actually the ride that traumatized me over roller-coasters. I was afraid to go on, but my family pressured me into trying it. As the ride started, I slipped down in my seat so that all I could see was straight up. I remember that my fingernails didn't easily come out the rubber molding when the ride was over.
Later, I rode it and enjoyed it even. It's actually a pathetic roller coaster. Thunder Mountain was my favorite the last time I went. It was just fun.

I evaded the seat lock so i could stand up on the revolution (loop coaster) at magic mountain. Space mountain on the other hand, you could rarely see well enogh to know if you were risking an arm or something.

If you put your hands straight up in the air on Big Thunder Mountain you come out of your seat so much that you get a bruised bottom...which I actually really enjoy :P
Indiana Jones is molten and fabulous...a feast for the senses...

TwM: I put my hands straight up on a fairly mild coaster at Riverside and I got a bruised bottom... which I did not really enjoy.

One of these days I'm afraid mandy is going to have an arm chopped right off because she's always sticking them up in the air when she should be hanging on for dear life. Well, don't come crying to me with that severed arm in your other hand, honey, 'cause I'll just shake my head and say "I told you so!" * wink *
