It is because otherwise they will do them up out of order and have to start again |
| blondie20 |
I don't know, but it's true, they do. |
bill |
I go top down, but I'm a dyke, so... |
romkey |
This isn't my experience. |
Enheduanna |
Do they? I think my SO buttons his from the top down. |

My hubby goes from the top down. |
| CarlHalling | | posted 8-Mar-2007 10:50am |
Not sure. I always button my shirts from the neck down; and can never recall buttoning a dress shirt from the bottom upwards. However, given that they are not opened up like normal shirts, it makes some sense to do this perhaps. |

I didn't notice this. |

They do? News to me! I don't know. Whenever I used to wear button-up shirts, which wasn't that often and not recently, I never paid the slightest attention to how I did it. But then I didn't have any kind of male role models like brothers, fathers, etc. to watch. So tell us why. |
| JessicaWoman99 | | posted 8-Mar-2007 12:25pm |
You mean to tell me they do??? I never ever knew this and how interesting
and yes I do close my blouse from the top and men I wonder why this is |
| Enigma | | posted 8-Mar-2007 12:30pm |
Do they? I'll have to watch the other half next time he buttons it. Gramma told me that's the way you do it so you don't miss a button. |
cloudhugger | | posted 8-Mar-2007 12:45pm |
Because of their dicky-do. |
| Amanda | | posted 8-Mar-2007 12:56pm |
I didn't know they did. I wonder if I've totally screwed Caleb up. I always buttoned his from the top down, now he does the same. Just great. I've turned my kid gay! |

Here's what I think. Since men tend to carry their weight in their, ummm, abdomens; perhaps if they start from the bottom up, they can ensure the garment will fit. It's a time saver! |
| filiasan |
How stereotypical of you. I button them bottom up, and I'm woman. It works better for me because there's far less chance of mistake (namely, button in the wrong hole). I guess most women do it from top down because they're anxious to cover up their boobs. |
| judgescratch |
I don't know, but it's true, they do. |
LindaH |
They do? I don't know. I'm a woman and I button from top down, because it's easier to hold onto the button and material. They stay closer together. Bottom up, they separate when you are pulling it down tight. It's annoying and awkward! |
llamamama |
Women button from the top down? Why? That seems so dumb. I guess you better start calling me a man.
But the reason they button from the bottom up is because it's more logical.. |
| kirst |
Do they??? I have no idea. |
| kirst | | (reply to bill) posted 8-Mar-2007 5:21pm |
You big dyke! I'm seeing a pattern here! Ha! |

It is because you are less likely to button the shirt wrong if you start at the bottom and we all know that guys aren't too bright. |
| RGirl | | (reply to bill) posted 8-Mar-2007 6:11pm |
Why do you keep saying you area dyke? |
cerealkiller |
Why the stereotype assumption? I have always buttoned shirts top down. |

I'm not surprised, she's always starting something. |
| hypersky | | posted 8-Mar-2007 10:04pm |
Buttoning down, men want to lead women's eyes toward their crotch and by buttoning up, women want to lead men's eyes toward their chests. You guessed it, I have no clue why... |
| JessicaWoman99 | | posted 8-Mar-2007 11:01pm |
It is because..............................................................................They.....................are mennnnnnnnnnnnnnn |
| JessicaWoman99 | | posted 8-Mar-2007 11:02pm |
Men have to button their crotch first then work it up to the head |
| icurok |
I don't. I button shirts from the top down. I unbutton them from the top down too. |
they |
Since when do I start at the top? I hate being generalized.
I start at the bottom when buttoning a shirt because it's easier to make sure you are matching up buttons to holes correctly. |
| docgbrown |
They do? It sounds like a false assumption to me. I vary how I button my shirts and my shorts have balls hanging in them. |
Zang |
Actually, I usually start in the middle and go up and then down. I probably do it differently every time. |
Zang | | (reply to CarolL) posted 9-Mar-2007 5:43pm |
So, you got an informative link? Where did you get this wacky idea? It doesn't look like many people agree with you, although some do. |
Maarten |
This is the first time I've heard about this. |
| CCsHottieMami | | posted 9-Mar-2007 10:35pm |
If the do it from the top down they will forget buttons and then they will have to start ALL over again. :) |

They do? I've seen men button from the top down and women from the bottom up. Maybe we should tell them they're doing it wrong. |
| kitkat | | posted 15-May-2007 12:06am |
My ex-husband always buttoned his shirts from the top down. He unbuttoned them from the top too. |
