Corgi and a couple others that are similar (I forget their names off hand). Maybe a beagle, though I haven't known many. Really, I like all kinds of dogs. I tend to like the mid-sized ones. Small ones seem to yappy (though, I have a soft spot for dachshunds). Big dogs are just too much work, though a big dog that is mellow is always great.

I love my Austrailan Shepherds and Border Collies. Smartest dogs around. They know what I want before I even open my mouth. I can say one word and they will bring my horse (the one I want) right up to the gate. Of course I can just call the horse to the gate too. I have to go outside to do that though.

I'm not a big dog fancier. I prefer dogs that aren't hyper and don't try to lick me. I don't dislike dogs in general.

The list on the website is too long for me to go through it, but from memory I like dobermann, Irish setters, huskies, St Bernards, German shepherds, pretty much all big dogs. I hate small dogs. I hate medium dogs. I dislike muts or mixes of any kind (especially if it's my aunt's ADHD schnoodle). When I have my own pets one day I'd like to get two dobermann.

Labs and any other kind of big dog..but not too big.

I like dogs, and there are some breeds that I kind of like specifically, but I've never owned a dog, so I don't really know which ones I would end up liking the most. For instance, I think beagles are really cute, but I hear they smell really bad and are kind of difficult as pets.

This survey is a little too broad and general.

There are quite a few cuties I like. Mid size poodles, Jack Russells, Shetland Sheepdogs.... I like all kinds of dogs. I love the way a Rottweiler looks but I don't know if I would own one.

I love dogs. I'd say mainly prefer larger dogs like sheepherder types, collies, German shepherds.

Too man to list. I like most but get picky with small dogs, toy dogs. Small terriers are all cute, not I'm not big on chihuahuas, or the skinnier dogs, greyhounds and whippets. St. Bernards are great but they drool A LOT. I like all of the others. I especially like Min Pins and German Shepherds- which I have, and I LOVE mutts! They have the most unique personalities and tend to be healthier. I personally have a yorkie-poo, min pin, black Lab mix, German Sheperd, and a Rotty/Shepherd mix.

Sorry about the broadness and generalness of this. I knew not to many people would want to spend time on the website, but thought if they had a general idea of a type to look up they could.

To my knowledge Beagles don't stink and are not that bad of a dog. Just keep a lot of chew toys around.

Yeah, that's kind of what I've heard--that they have a lot of energy and thus also require a lot of energy and play. Not that they're bad dogs.

You got it! Kinda like my dogs, but my dogs hace to stay busy all the time. They have all kinds of energy. They have went on 20 mile rides with me on my horse and when we get back they still have energy. I have to tell them to lay down because they just won't on their own.*laughing out loud* They do listen to me.

That's good!
I read an article about border collies a few years ago, and they sounded like amazing dogs. Herding dogs in general I think are really neat. It's impressive that they can go get you the specific horse that you want!

Yeah, they actually know them by their names. As far as the way they see them in their eyes I'm not sure if they see them the same way you or I would. They are always right though. Most of it is from being around them and me and me using their names a lot.

I like a small or medium sized dog for practical purposes but if a dog has a good personality I'd ask him to move in if I was looking for a dog. I currently have a Shar-Pei. I have also had a Chihauhua and she was great to cuddle with & a Terrier mix that was super fun & cute. I do prefer female dogs to male dogs but I have to say that if he had a good personality I could go either way. *wink*

Tender and tasty ones... Just kidding, sort of. I like nice dogs like Labradors, seeing-eye dogs etc... It isn't about the breed or size it is about the personality and temperament. I’m actually looking for a dog that would be a good one for my two boys (pictured) to learn with and love.

Seeing-eye chihuahuas, seeing-eye St. Bernards.. fairly similar eh? I'll have to get myself a pink and purple seeing-eye poodle.

As long as they are of a nice temperament, why not get a pink and purple seeing-eye poodle? Have you seen the seeing-eye miniature horses and pigs? I don't need a Seeing Eye animal for my kids but I'd like to get them a dog soon. Any suggestions of a good dog breed for young boys?
Kristal_Rose Survey Central Gold SubscriberBronze Star Survey Creator
(reply to docgbrown) posted 18-Mar-2007 7:32am

I was just amusing myself with the thought.

For young boys, the same sort of preferences I have myself; naturally good natured playful animals (wrestling and frisbee) like labradors. It depends on if the kids could commit to take it out playing all the time, otherwise you're better off with an old person's dog like a beagle or scottish terrier.

I think there's a huge truth in dogs and owners generally being alike. You know your kids. Figure out which dogs are most similar in personality. Twice in my life I was given a cockapoo. Talk about a personality mismatch. The second one eventually worked out really sweet for new owners. When I had it though, it would whine and yap all the time I stepped away from it, and attack my pants when I was near. If the kids are inquisitive, get an inquisitve breed, if manic, reserved, protective, sulky, proud, explorative, acrobatic, vain, orderly, rugged, independent, needy... for every personality type there's a breed of dog to match. You want them to love the dog, and vice-versa, and a big part of that is that they identify with each other.

German Shepard, cocker spaniel, springer spaniel.
