I think that it is unfair to the goalie of any sport! Sports are supposed to be a team event and shoot-outs are just not fair.

Ever since Italy lost to Brazil in the last World Cup, due to shoot-outs, I have been against them. I was before that time, but this game really made me go against them... (Ophelia: good point indeed)

The event is a team event so the just have overtime rather than have the entire thing rely on just the goalie.

I don't care. It's a good survey; I just have no opinion on the answer.

I'd like to see a "sudden death" round in the biathalon.

shoot-outs? Is that like a drive-by? I didn't realize that sports had gotten that violent, maybe I'll try watching some someday.... on second thought, maybe I'll just not.

I think that if there's no clear winner, then you might as well have a shoot-out. The game must come to an end one way or another.

just part of the game...it could go on forever if not!

I have no f***ing idea what you're talking about. I find sports (ok, competitive professional sports) to be a complete waste of time and the fact that people who participate/follow/survive on them draw the same air I do makes me want to vomit. KP: oh, but I do. and you don't know me.

I'm with fiore on this one. Shoot-outs just seems a overly stressful and abrupt way to end what may have been a very enjoyable game. Being English it breaks my heart to see England lose to Germany on penalties EVERY TIME .Still, "two world wars and one world cup doo-dah, doo-dah" (sung to the tune of Camptown Racers for those of you who don't know the joke). Atzilut, you don't know what you're missing. Atzilut: I never said I did know you, although I agree with what you say about fanaticism. I'd survive perfectly well without sport - it's just harmless fun that brings people together.

after a reasonable amount of overtimes in a low scoring game like hockey or soccer, i think its the only real option.

I've no idea what a shoot-out would mean in this context.
**Ah, now I understand, I think. I have no opinion, I don't follow any sports. I couldn't even tell you who won the last Super Bowl (or who played, to be honest).

Sure. As long as I don't have to be the goalie. :)

sure.. why not.. arm all the players and the last one left standing is the winner.. suits me. I don't follow sports at all, I don't care.

I think there's too much violence in sports as is, and guns should be kept out of it.
