If it were that drastic they would notice, I think. |

I'd say it depends on the person. I've noticed people can be quite delusional about self-image. And of course it isn't polite to point these things out, so they can go along pretending. |

I would hope that they wouldn't concern themselves with a silly thing like that. |

After awhile, when people make enough comments to them about it, even in passing. Then yes they would know or they are incredibly niave. |

Masculinity, and femininity radiates through actions, physically or verbally much more than looks. I do, however, like to see a man dress and act like a man, and likewise with a woman, I like seeing a woman dress and act as a woman. I think a person would know if a man or woman feels himself or herself masculine or feminine by the way they project themselves overall. |
jettles |
i think it depends on what someone feels masculine or feminine looks like. it is different in different cultures and in different times through out history. do you think feminine involves make up or a type of clothing or just a persons natural appearance. i think if someone is a man then he looks like a man because that IS what he is so that must be what it looks like on him and visa versa for a woman. we've created these gender models thru the years that are impossible to attain by most people. |

The person would surely feel like and see themselves as a man or woman but would, I guess, be aware of their androgynous look. |
romkey | | posted 2-Jan-2007 11:28am |
I think that people's concepts of masculine and feminine vary much more than you may think.
Looking like a man doesn't necessarily mean looking masculine. Looking like a man means having primary and secondary sexual characteristics that are male - body hair, facial hair, flat chest, male genitalia, less wide hips... looking masculine is a cultural and societal thing. Masculinity is not uniform across cultures, even subcultures in the same nation. |

I have no idea. I would imagine some would and some wouldn't. |

I think the opposite is worse. Like, for example, a man trying to look like a woman, thinking he's pulling it off, and being NO WHERE close! |

I think they'd notice but don't really care... |

How on Earth can you generalize this??? |

Very good. Look at The Australian Aboriginal people. What is their concepts??? Very different from our own! |
| MiniMary | | (reply to FordGuy) posted 2-Jan-2007 2:03pm |
I think that has a lot to do with body size. A good make-up artist can do wonders! |

Any man who looks like a woman I am 100% positive that he would notice this in any mirror? Unless of course he does not look at himself in the mirror or does not really see himself as a woman. And any woman who looks like a man she might be a lesbian? Yes she will see herself as a man and chances are she is lesbian. And yes as I think of this there are men who most certainly do look like a woman and they are gay |

> How on Earth can you generalize this???
Mary I have this one all figured out and I know by experience and growing up, and seeing men who look like women they or some of them really are gay, and some women who look manly truly are lesbian, and not all women who look butch are lesbian and just perhaps some women many not be lesbian and look like men, some women wear their hair so short they look like a guy, and some men have very little facial hair and yes they do look like a woman for sure and ask my anything Mary I can help you on these subjects? |
| MiniMary |
Well Jessica, yes but my question was that this is a huge generalization with the survey creator asking us to read the minds of such a population. How can you do that? Yes, your explanations make sense...people look all kinds of ways...but that isn't what the survey creator wants. |

I think it's more about speculating. The SC is asking us what we suppose people are thinking. You don't have to know for sure what a group of people think. It's a nice mental excersize to just suppose. |

Yes I do see what you are saying here Mary and no we cannot read the minds of everybody no impossible' , and if I were to see a man who looks like any woman I am kind of speechless??? And I simply say nothing to offend them no, and I am very kind and polite and we just have to accept people for who they are, and I see other women who clearly do look like any man and yes I do stare which is not nice of me, but I am speechless and looking for words to say and I have no clue at all, and yes I do not know if they know they look like a guy or look like a girl? Maybe they are aware of their condition or she is a lesbian and could be something they are born with in their genes and runs in the family, and the best advice is to treat them with respect and kindness and none of our business how some person he or she appears to each of us, and we just have to love them like black and white neighbors and all get along on this planet. Yes it does surprise and shock me to see this man and he clearly does look like any woman around here, and I am not even sure myself if I am looking at a man or a girl? I will look them up and down, and look them up and down and I will not say a word or say anything like a simple hello' until I am sure who this person really is? And yes I was in the womens bathroom at one time and I recall this woman she looked so much like a man and I was ready to say something to her, and a good thing I kept my mouth closed and pay no attention to her because we cannot guess and we do not really have any idea about that person and who they really and truly are, and yes I am seen as a woman myself and I do not look like male in any way shape or form, and I am never ever mistaken for a man no, it is yes maam she and her is how people see me at work and shopping, and at the Airport in Denver I am seen as a woman and no problems or issues about this Mary. Yes it is how others see us as, if other people call you Miss and maam like they do me and address me as she and Miss Jessica and you see yourself in the mirror looking back at you, and you either see a man looking back at you, or you see a woman looking back at you and we should know who truly are in this life and world, and I myself have struggled with this and after 40 years I am free after listening to people telling me I am so and so. And how a person may appear to us that might not be who they are? And yes some people are afraid to come out and open up to other people who they really are and just prefer to stay as they are |
| JessicaWoman99 |
And anybody else who would love to ask me anything?? I am up for the challenge and this week has been a busy one taking care of my problems and helping other people with their problems and solving problems all week long puts me in the drivers seat and I feel like a Social Worker and I feel like a Mother hen this week and running around fixing this and that problem or troubles |

> Other; do they intentionally mean to look like that?
No they do not intentionally mean to look that way, and look at people in this world who are born with some kind of disability missing an arm at the time of their birth? Or some people are born very short, midgets, those very short people and is it their fault no it is not? And we see other people missing 2 legs or missing 2 arms and is it their fault no it is not their fault at all and look at people who are born obese and over weight a woman who weighs 500 pounds or a man who weighs 600 pounds, and something might be wrong with their genes or something genetic going on in the family tree and surgery can help them and save their life, and yes some may choose not to have the surgery to save their life and it ends up taking a family member to save them because they do not know or have a clue about their condition and some people are born blind and cannot see and they do remarkably well on their own and you llamamama would have no idea or clue they really are blind, and yet they are on their own and no help or little help and amazing how well they get around |

I think some people do, other people don't. Most of the ones who dont probably don't care. |

I don't know. My best friend in high school, God love her, she was not an attractive girl but she did not look like a man. She dressed down all the time. She also did not have a feminine figure at all. Fast forward twenty years, a male friend of mine said he saw me at a distance and was going to come over but I was talking to some guy and he didn't want to interrupt. That "guy" was that same girlfriend. I don't believe if you asked her she would say she thought she looked like a man. |

I am someone in this category. I am a woman in my forties, when I was young i had a large strong face which was feminine but not overly so. When i got into my thirties my jawline became heavier and my cheekbones deminished-result a masculine looking woman, probably more dragqueen looking than just manly. Very hard to live with especially for my kids. I am not a lesbian either. |

I think most times they do not notice. Like a lot of times big people don't realize how fat they really are. |
