| RainingFeathers | posted 28-Dec-2006 3:41pm Yes! Around here we have Dollarama, and everything actually IS exactly $1.00 (most dollar stores I know sell things for between $1 and $15). Everyone in my family, and most of the people in my class, is almost obsessed with the place. You can buy nearly anything, and it's better quality than you might expect.

| pandora | posted 28-Dec-2006 4:06pm I like to "vote with my money" as some people say. I also prefer quality over quantity, and that is the enemy of Ye Olde $ Shoppe. |
| Vamps_Elf | posted 28-Dec-2006 4:28pm Dollar Tree is the true dollar store. Dollar General is more the like $10 dollar General! |
| Enheduanna | posted 28-Dec-2006 4:30pm Sure. |
| Enigma | posted 28-Dec-2006 5:04pm I get things from the dollar store sometimes. Got huge red bows with big long ribbons for only $1.00 each to hang on my birches out front. I also get cool coloured glasses there. Just for fun. I would never buy makeup there though.... not that I wear makeup anyway... |
| hypersky | posted 28-Dec-2006 5:56pm It's okay for some things, but I find that most of the stuff in the dollar stores aren't even worth the dollar they charge. |
| LJD | posted 28-Dec-2006 6:13pm We have several Dollar Tree stores locally. I bought my Christmas dinnerware (plates), had a lot of compliments, candles, decorations, picture frames, shampoo.... |
| kirst | posted 28-Dec-2006 6:17pm No, not a fan of any of those stores. |
| lily333 | posted 28-Dec-2006 6:32pm Yes I like dollar stores for kitchen gadgets, gift bags, picture frames etc... The dollar store in my town was not doing well so the owner decided to make everything 1.25. A month later they closed. |
| cabinfever | posted 28-Dec-2006 6:56pm I like perusing the Dollar Tree. You never know what you will find. I found a $20 book there that I was thinking of buying. |
| cloudhugger | posted 28-Dec-2006 7:26pm It also says, "Thank you for supporting the Red Army" |
| Galomorro | posted 28-Dec-2006 8:03pm Other. I don't know of these stores here but there's a small similar one called Bargain Bank I go to sometimes which has overstock and discounted items. So YES I would go to this type of store for miscellaneous stuff and food. Anything to save a buck. It's fun to shop them cuz they get new things in all the time and you never know what might be there. If you see something you like, you should buy as much as you can of it at that time as it may never return to the store again. |
| llamamama | posted 28-Dec-2006 8:40pm No, not a great place. But a good enough place.
Some things I'm surprised come from there..and others..not so much. And Dollar General..is anything that ends in "dollar". |
| filiasan | posted 28-Dec-2006 9:06pm They're okay. I hate some, though. And the only dollar store I really like is an asian one called Dollar Green. |
| bill | posted 28-Dec-2006 10:17pm It's an OK place.. prices are good, but quality can be a problem. If you're careful, you can get some great deals, though. |
| RGirl | posted 29-Dec-2006 12:23am Yes, they are fun for cheap stuff and fun just to buy pointless junk. |
| Zang | posted 29-Dec-2006 1:30am There are a bunch of "dollar stores" around here. I think I bought something at one once. It was next to the laundromat where my buddy/roommate and I were doing our laundry. I don't recall what I bought, except that it was some kind of houseware that we needed. I guess that was about eight years ago. There aren't any close enough to me that I would bother shopping at one habitually. |
| Zang | (reply to Iseult) posted 29-Dec-2006 1:33am > I bought make up from dollar store
> once when I was seven and I broke out in hives. I was wondering about that one myself. Who buys make up from the dollar store? What sort of cheap crap would that be? Thank you for answering both my questions! |
| Maarten | posted 29-Dec-2006 3:51am Usually it's very poorly made stuff from China's prison camps. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 29-Dec-2006 8:28am I would guess so. I haven't been in one for years. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to pandora) posted 29-Dec-2006 8:34am Hey there! Good to see you back. Hope you can come around some now. How is the new addition to your family? Didn't you hace your baby a while back? |
| mve17 | posted 29-Dec-2006 9:16am Merry Christmas, have a fake smelly candle that doesnt light, or smell. |
| Jody | posted 29-Dec-2006 10:22am I don't go there for anything of good quality, but it's a great place for kids to spend their allowance. |
| Melf | posted 29-Dec-2006 11:31am Never heard of it. |
| pandora | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 29-Dec-2006 3:09pm Hey Rockman, I hoped you would still be around. My daughter (Vivian!) is incredible and delightful. She was born this past August. I miscarried a couple of times while I was an active member here. I have since been immensely blessed and am having such a good time being a mama.
What's new with you? How's your lady? And the horses? Gimme an update. |
| southernyankee | posted 29-Dec-2006 5:36pm If you dont expect to still have the item after a year it makes sense. However if you plan on keeping it longer, its better to pay more for it so that it would last longer, and then you would save more money in the long run. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to pandora) posted 30-Dec-2006 5:32am Sorry to hear about the miscarrages.
I'm doing good and so is my Woman. I have sold the horse bording business/property and retired. I still have 3 horses though. I have moved down to the Lake of the Ozarks now. Love it down here. Speaking of babies I have become a Grandpa too! |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 30-Dec-2006 3:49pm There are no such places like this around here in Colorado and over in Granby there is a .99 cents store and cheap stuff there |
| Gomezy3k | posted 31-Dec-2006 7:02am Hey that's where I buy all my presents for others... so nothing wrong with it...
I love going into "everything for a dollar" type stores and asking for a price check ROFLMAO... |
| Iseult | (reply to Zang) posted 31-Dec-2006 9:36pm You're welcome.
Althought it's not usually seven year old girls buying make up. That was just me being precocious. Girls usually wait until they're 13/14 to start putting make up on. |
| Zang | (reply to Iseult) posted 1-Jan-2007 4:23am Sounds about right. Well, when I was that age anyway...my nieces both started pretty early. Before ten anyway, although it was just for mucking about. They didn't wear it for school or anything. |
| gambler | posted 1-Jan-2007 1:54pm Generally speaking, NO unless its stuff that would cost a $1 at any other store |
| Iseult | (reply to Zang) posted 1-Jan-2007 11:02pm Oh, I'd wear it for school. I'd put this blue crayon around my eyes. |
| patarnone | posted 3-Jan-2007 4:46pm I love the Dollar Store, but you get what you pay for. |
| ausfox | posted 9-Jan-2007 8:33pm I don't really like stores like that. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 4-Jun-2007 3:14am Yes, as long as you're careful about what you buy there. |
| ahaden | posted 10-Mar-2009 12:12pm I can always find different things at these stores. |
| juliamommy27 | posted 10-Mar-2009 7:14pm yeah |
| aj8347 | posted 12-Mar-2009 12:47pm Clerks are always friendly and helpful. |
| Janet | posted 16-May-2009 8:30pm I get more than just trinkets at our GD. I get my pet food there, my paper products, Veggies, Treats, Socks, summer pool items, and other seasonal items. Otherwise not affordable at Wallmart, which is the only other store besides IGA in our area, but, I cant afford to shop there either, so..yes, I love our dollar general, I wish we had a dollar tree here as well. |

I like shopping at the dollar store when I'm getting stuff like candles (as long as you don't light them they're a fine ornament), wrapping paper, candy, cards, gift bags, and other stuff.
