| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 29-Dec-2006 3:43pm That's about half a block from me! If I were to leap out the window that's right in front of me and survive the five story plummet to the sidewalk, turn left and walk down the sidewalk to the intersecting alley, and then do an about-face and look up, that is exactly what I would see. |

My last job, when I was doing home care, we had a client in that building. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 30-Dec-2006 5:42am That is so funny I was just scanning through pics and saw this one and thought of you. Then just wondered if it was in your ares. Cool deal! |

| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 31-Dec-2006 2:29am I posted a picture on this page:
http://surveycentral.org/survey/22827.html Your picture was taken from the position to the right of the white, rounded awning just above the silver sports car. The photographers would have been more or less facing each other. It's hard to make out the building in your picture, in the other one. It's pretty small. |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 31-Dec-2006 2:34am > You didn't have far to get home from thet client.
I only saw him twice and it was in the middle of the day. I had another one that was regular for the whole three years I worked there. First thing every Thursday morning. He was right across the street from me. That was convenient! My place was actually more centrally located than our office was. Pretty much smack dab in the middle of the area we were serving. The office was about a block away from the western edge. From my place, I could get anywhere I needed to be in about 10 minutes by foot, 15 at the outside. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 31-Dec-2006 5:27am Cool deal. Are there very many white people that live around you, or is it mostly Chinese? |

| gambler | posted 1-Jan-2007 5:09pm Nothing specific |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 1-Jan-2007 8:03pm Mind? No, Canadians are a pretty tolerant lot. There's a certain amount of racism, but it's a very minority attitude. Chinatown started out back during the goldrush/railroad building era, which is when Vancouver was being established. Initially, it was mostly due to language, food and social ties. There was a period of extreme racism in the early 20th century when it was more of an exclusive ghetto kind of thing, but after a while it became tolerant again. Chinese people are certainly just as capable of being racist as anyone else is and I've experienced it, but it's extremely rare.
I spent several months traveling through Asia, back in 1990/91, so I'm used to the idea of being a minority. I've also spent more than half of the past 25 years living in or around this neighbourhood. I'm pretty used to it. It's convenient for work and shopping. I like Chinese food, I probably eat more of it than anything else. I get along really well with my neighbours. Most of them are old Chinese guys that speak little or no English, but there's always big smiles and greetings when we cross paths. I've been in this building over five years now. Everyone knows me as a nice, polite, helpful guy. I'm sure you would feel pretty out of place here. Just the dense urban environment would be a stark contrast to your rustic existence. The only horses you ever see around here have policemen sitting on top of them! |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 1-Jan-2007 8:11pm > Oh! I didn't do that.
Do you know how? You have to put size numbers in after the link. It goes: link space number space number then the last img thing. I get the numbers from "properties" (when you right click on the image to get the address) and then usually I'll turn the larger one into a "400" and use my calculator to figure out what the other number should be. (400 divided by "big number" x "small number") I think bill must have changed it. For a while there, the default was 20 x 20 or something really small like that. If you didn't play with the numbers, your images were always tiny. |

| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 2-Jan-2007 5:16am Yeah that's probably a lot better then what I find. |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 2-Jan-2007 7:17am A couple of phrases. I don't use them often. I'm always concerned about pronunciation. There are very subtle differences and I'm not confident. I can say "Hello, how are you?" and "Happy New Year". |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 2-Jan-2007 7:22am > It's not working for me.
{img} goes on either side. The link goes in between. It's on the help page, Emoticons and Special Mark-up Codes: In-line an image Syntax is: {img}LINK-TO-IMAGE WIDTH HEIGHT{img} thus
becomes: |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 3-Jan-2007 5:23am Yeah, that's kinda the same with Japanese. Subtle differences can make all the difference. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 3-Jan-2007 5:25am I know all that, but the size thing wasn't working for me. |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 3-Jan-2007 7:24pm Hmm...and you've got the little spaces and they're in the right place? |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 4-Jan-2007 5:40am I think I did it right the first time I tried, then I tried it 2 more times. I'll just have to play around one day till I get it right. I probably missed something. |
