| ROCKMAN | posted 26-Dec-2006 8:35am Hell yes have done it many, many times. When I go on my canoe trips there are a few good places to climb up and jump from. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to bill) posted 26-Dec-2006 8:37am > no thanks, but I'd be happy to watch
It's a blast! Of course you have to do some climbing before you can jump. That's not so bad though. |
| gazelda1 | posted 26-Dec-2006 8:39am that is awesome |
| bill | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 26-Dec-2006 8:44am There's a swimming hole in the middle of Vermont, about 50 miles from where I live where people do something like this. It's just a river, but it goes over some large smooth rocks (looks really amazing too). We went there to check it out and there were kids jumping off the rocks into a pool that had formed. There was a lower and a higher jumping point. The higher one was over 20 feet, it was quite impressive. Especially, since there were rocks everywhere. There was a sign as we walked in that mentioned that many people had died there, and to use at your own risk, etc. |
| hypersky | posted 26-Dec-2006 8:48am YES!!!! That looks like so much fun. I would feel like I'm 8 years old or something doing that. Where do I sign up? |
| Melf | posted 26-Dec-2006 9:49am Yes, I've done it before. |
| TeddyMiller | posted 26-Dec-2006 9:51am Extremely no; I can't swim, and I have a phobia about cliffs. |
| LindaH | posted 26-Dec-2006 11:54am Yes! Fun! |
| autumnlight | posted 26-Dec-2006 12:01pm Abseiling with safety equipment? Yes. Jumping like a goon? No |
| MiniMary | posted 26-Dec-2006 12:15pm I've seen this is an Elvis Presley movie, "Fun in Acapulco" but I think that the cliff was higher. It was a very dramatic sense and I remember it so well even though I was very young seeing it. ElvisFan remembers it, I am sure! |
| MiniMary | (reply to Melf) posted 26-Dec-2006 12:18pm That high? Or were you high??? |
| LJD | posted 26-Dec-2006 1:38pm You have got to be kidding...LOL |
| LJD | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 26-Dec-2006 1:43pm You are a bit of a daredevil... You live near Appleton City? I don't know if I asked you before, if so, I apologize. |
| MagicalJamie | posted 26-Dec-2006 2:54pm Yeah, I always wanted to try that |
| Anderz | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:08pm Maybe if I knew it was absolutely safe. |
| Amanda | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:29pm No. I might want to, but I doubt I could bring myself to do it. I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to things like this. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:34pm No I do not have the nerve or heart to do this and I want to live a bit longer so no thanks |

| JessicaWoman99 | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:37pm And who really knows what is down below in the water like jagged rocks and you go splat and it is all over |
| cloudhugger | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:43pm No. Not a fan of going downhill real fast. And not seeing the landing for sure. |
| cloudhugger | posted 26-Dec-2006 4:45pm A friend of my sister did that, all the kids were doing it and he ended up breaking his back and was paralyzed. That happened in my young teen years so it pretty much ingrained in me a big fat no fudging way. |
| patarnone | posted 26-Dec-2006 6:09pm Uh, no. Definitely not. |
| Enigma | posted 26-Dec-2006 9:03pm Bring it.... bring those cliffs! |
| Enheduanna | posted 26-Dec-2006 9:21pm Maybe, if it's not too tall. |
| Iseult | posted 26-Dec-2006 10:34pm Maybe; cliff would have to be smaller and I would have to be sure how deep and reef-less the water is. |
| llamamama | posted 27-Dec-2006 12:03am No, and why is this multi-pick? |
| Zang | posted 27-Dec-2006 3:44am Do you know how many people wind up dead or paraplegic from doing that crap? |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to bill) posted 27-Dec-2006 5:56am There was a place in Okinawa we used to jump from, and it was about 50 feet up. There was all kinds of stuff (coral and things) to look out for. It was dangerous but fun! |

| ROCKMAN | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 27-Dec-2006 6:01am > Maybe, if it's not too tall.
How tall would be to tall? |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to llamamama) posted 27-Dec-2006 6:02am > No, and why is this multi-pick?
Because that is the way I wanted it! |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 27-Dec-2006 6:04am > Do you know how many people wind up dead
> or paraplegic from doing that crap? You have to know what your jumping into for one thing. I probably jumped off of cliffs 3 or 400 times last summer. You deffinatly don't want to do any belly flops from high up. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to LJD) posted 27-Dec-2006 6:26am I am kinda a daredevil!
No, I don't live to close to Appleton city. I do know where it is though and have been through there quite a few times. I live towards the other side of the lake. |
| bill | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:21am I hear that just hitting the water wrong, when you jump from really high, can really hurt you. The water can act like a brick wall, if you hit it the wrong way, like a belly-flop could be deadly. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to bill) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:28am True! You don't want to do a belly flop from that high, or land flat on your back. |
| bill | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:51am So, what did you usually do, feet first? ...straight in, like a knife, arms crossed over your chest? |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to bill) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:54am You got it! Once in a while if the water is deep enough I'll dive in. If it's not to high I'll do can openers and things that make good splashes. |
| llamamama | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 11:01am Well, ok then |
| Melf | (reply to MiniMary) posted 27-Dec-2006 11:54am That high, not high |
| LJD | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 12:57pm Rockman, I know you like to live life to the fullest...that is good. ....keeps you young, vibrant.... I haven't been to my birth town of Appleton City since I was 6 years old. I've heard it is a small town. My aunt, uncle live out in the boondocks on their 1100 acre farm...acreage for generations. My cousins live within a short distance from them. |
| MiniMary | (reply to Melf) posted 27-Dec-2006 1:04pm was this freezing cold water? Do not do this anymore! I worry. Stick to swimming pools!!! |
| Melf | (reply to MiniMary) posted 27-Dec-2006 1:52pm I don't like swimming pools much. I don't even like swimming much. But, nah, it was Newquay (big surf destination) so the water was lovely. I don't think I'll do it again; I have to take off my glasses and my eyesight is terrible. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 3:28pm I don't know, but probably pretty short! Maybe 10 or 15 feet. |
| MiniMary | (reply to Melf) posted 27-Dec-2006 3:54pm I would never know that there is warm water in England. How terrible is your sight? |
| Zang | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 4:02pm There's a couple of places near here where it seems that a few people (drunk teenaged boys) get killed or seriously injured every year. Sure, there's plenty of people (sober teenaged boys) who don't get killed or injured...I'd just as soon use a high diving board at a pool if I felt so inclined. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to llamamama) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:27pm Thanks for understanding! |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to LJD) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:47pm That's a nice area around there. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:54pm That's an ok jump. I like it around 50 feet or so. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:57pm There have been accidents where I go too. I'm just always carefull. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 7:59pm That's way too scary for me! |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 27-Dec-2006 8:02pm I think the highest I have jumped from was close to 100 feet, but that's just to much climbing. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 8:04pm And too much falling! |
| llamamama | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 8:41pm Anytime |
| Amanda | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 27-Dec-2006 10:20pm I might do it then, just so I could touch you. |
| RGirl | posted 27-Dec-2006 11:27pm No and it isn't jumping off a cliff, it's my phobia of large bodies of water and the things in them. Also, I can't swim very well. |
| LindaH | posted 28-Dec-2006 12:09am Kids graduate from tossing mushy peas from a high chair to flinging themselves to the floor from high furniture. Those who never lose their fascination with the virtues of gravity grow into the likes of the guys in the picture. |

Not interested anymore. |
| Melf | (reply to MiniMary) posted 28-Dec-2006 10:11am I don't know the exact numbers, but put it this way, I can't read anything on the computer screen right now with my glasses off unless I'm within about 25cms of it. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 28-Dec-2006 11:51am Or the heart attack. |
| MiniMary | (reply to Melf) posted 28-Dec-2006 1:12pm That's pretty severe. What has caused this?? Do you know?? Have you always had bad sight? You know, laser surgery can do wonders these days. Have you considered it? You have that universal insurance in the UK, right? Would that cover your eye correction???? |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 29-Dec-2006 7:14am I guess that could happen too. |
| mve17 | posted 29-Dec-2006 9:41am Not in a million years |
| Melf | (reply to MiniMary) posted 29-Dec-2006 10:55am Don't think it does eyes, but it just runs in the family. If the odds for the outcome of laser surgery look better when I'm older, I'll definitely look at it. |
| RGirl | (reply to MiniMary) posted 30-Dec-2006 12:15am I'm butting in here. My eye doc was always on me about being an excellent candidate for laser surgery. First, no one is coming near my eyes with a laser unless my alternative is complete blindness. Second, you have to have follow up procedures after so many years. It isn't a one time deal. |
| thecomic22 | posted 30-Dec-2006 1:10pm maybe |
| MiniMary | (reply to Melf) posted 30-Dec-2006 2:47pm Fair enough...but that is poor eyesight...at only 16....it really should be corrected,as those disabilities usually get worse with age. |
| SpoiledLiLMama | posted 31-Dec-2006 3:08pm No way!! |
| MiniMary | (reply to RGirl) posted 2-Jan-2007 1:26pm Yes, you are right. I really do not want to endorse it, but it's worth seeking out. The choice is always yours. But M is 16. Can she drive with this site? Doesn't seem so? What a shame to never be able to drive? But, if she can get her drivers license...then maybe her sight isn't all that bad! |
| RGirl | (reply to MiniMary) posted 3-Jan-2007 12:11am She wears glasses. I have to wear my glasses to drive. Says so on my license. |
| MiniMary | (reply to RGirl) posted 3-Jan-2007 4:44pm Her own words. I can't read anything on the computer screen right now with my glasses off unless I'm within about 25cms of it. I hope her glasses are strong enough, as 25cms is NOT a lot of distance. |
| RGirl | (reply to MiniMary) posted 3-Jan-2007 8:28pm Why would some one be on the computer without their glasses on if they can't see the screen? I don't stare at a blurry screen, I put my glasses on. |
| ROCKMAN | Maybe she just pulled them off to get a measurement. |
