| lilprincess | posted 22-Jul-1999 8:51pm I don't think people judge me on my looks, I think they judge me on how I present myself. I am a smiler and I think that it works to my advantage. |
| mandy | posted 22-Jul-1999 8:57pm Thank goodness I'm a cutey pie! |
| fooyun | posted 23-Jul-1999 1:39am Of course. Bad side: Age, gender and racial bias. Good side: Paying child's fare on the bus. |
| SueBee | posted 23-Jul-1999 1:41am Fooyun - LOL Do you really look that young? Like, under 12 or so? |
| fooyun | posted 23-Jul-1999 1:47am People tell me I look 14. The last time someone said this was two days ago! |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 23-Jul-1999 2:36am Sometimes, I get 'honey-buns' comments, but if I have an opportunity to look them in the face, I make them see the part of me that matters. |
| miykal | posted 23-Jul-1999 5:34am When a woman tells me I am handsome, I accept it, with good grace, for what its worth ie. a comment on my physical appearance. I do not interpret it as a judgment of my character. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 23-Jul-1999 5:58am I find people comment on an inner radiance, that manifests as appearance. Even make-up is an extension of ones state, an hour of scrutiny can't achieve the look created in a couple minutes of elation. |
| bill | posted 23-Jul-1999 8:59am I think my reasonable level of good looks has made my passive personality viable. Had I been uglier, I think I'd be depressed a lot of the time and/or I'd have had to change my personality (assuming that's possible). |
| milktree | posted 23-Jul-1999 10:35am I can't imagine that *anyone* isn't judged by his/her looks at least sometimes. In my case it seems to be good for me sometimes, and bad for me other times. |
| drdt | posted 23-Jul-1999 6:22pm If people judge me by my looks, I hope it is favourably, but not so favourably that they are disappointed when I open my mouth. |
| Mandy2 | posted 23-Jul-1999 7:57pm People do judge me by my looks, and it's a disadvantage. People look at me and assume that I'm a child. Once this woman came into my work and thought I was the daughter of my coworker. It really sucks. And I know their presumptions are final when I speak. My voice says it all....I also get asked if I'm lesbian because people *assume* that because I have my eyebrow pierced that my tongue is studded, which leads to "oh she must be lesbian." |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 23-Jul-1999 9:02pm Mandy: I'm glad you're here. |
| they | posted 24-Jul-1999 9:12am Maybe not on my looks.. but I think they do judge me on my clothing. I have never noticed before because I don't usually pay attention to people around me in public places.. but lately my SO has been pointing out the fact that my combat boots can be quite disruptive. |
| they | posted 24-Jul-1999 9:14am Mandy.. people assume I am a lesbian too... When I've asked why they thought that, they usually have no answer. |
| SueBee | posted 24-Jul-1999 2:14pm The combat boots, maybe? Doesn't it just suck that people have to try to label everyone? Why do we try to fit each other into these specific little categories? Most people aren't that organized in other ways, but we seem to need to organize people into groups in our minds. It's really a shame. |
| mandy | posted 24-Jul-1999 3:58pm *looks down at her combat boots* settle down boys...don't rock the boat. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 25-Jul-1999 1:40am yeah, i was followed nearly home today by someone who assumed i like guys. |
| jzp | posted 25-Jul-1999 5:52am yes, and i dislike it. wether it is 'advantageous' depends on the situaton. In business situations, it tends to be a plus nowadays. In personal situations, I always think it sucks. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 25-Jul-1999 6:06am ken212: (sucks=-1+1) hot. |
| msgman | posted 25-Jul-1999 9:17am Where's the option for "sometimes" or "occasionally"? |
| bluebird1974 | posted 28-Jul-1999 11:25pm I have no idea and I do not care if they do. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 28-Jul-1999 11:43pm I judge them on the looks of their words. I hate it when im wrong. |
| gilly | posted 29-Jul-1999 10:08am Yes, and it's often to my advantage but I hate it anyway. |
| kadai | posted 30-Jul-1999 2:48pm The world doesn't like strong, fat, black women - not one bit. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 1-Aug-1999 9:17am I suppose disdain is appropriate if no degree of open minded thinking could conjecture a belief system as at least having a well intended heart. |
| anonymous | posted 1-Aug-1999 4:53pm cat fight!!! |
| drdt | posted 5-Aug-1999 12:58pm Right. I'm stealing that quote. Thanks in advance. |
| Jasmine | posted 6-Aug-1999 6:30am Yes, and that's fine with me because i'm a good person and look that way. I judge others too, but it's there eyes and body language mostly, not their clothes or something. |
| Pomeranian | posted 7-Aug-1999 1:59am There was a time when I felt *everyone* judged me only on my looks...I got over it, and realized that most people judge me on my attitude, and then my looks, and sometimes m clothing...I used to think that if I over compensated people would not think I was just a dumb blonde...then I realized, mpst people were more then happy if I smiled and listened. That works for me. |
| Mariah | posted 31-Oct-1999 1:15am All people judge others by their looks. It may not be conscious, but we all do it. Some people are just better than others at letting the judgement pass and getting to know the true person. |
| natsim | posted 23-Nov-1999 3:50pm I look younger than I am. People often think I'm a student at my workplace, where I actually supervise graduate students! |
| Wicksy | posted 26-Nov-1999 7:03am Yeah, people can't stop asking me to sleep with them. God, it's frustrating!! |
