I don't know. There's a few I find upsetting. Nothing stands out as being the worst, though.

Well 9/11 & the tsunami were pretty traumatic. I still have dreams & night mares of these types of things but then I'm just like that. On a more personal level would be -

The Susan Smith story made me feel some of the strongest hatred I've had towards some one I don't even know. Makes me nauseous thinking about it.

The pika is almost extinct, due to humans. It just made me cry, and I very rarely get upset at the news.

I'm not sure. 9/11 was definitely upsetting, but it is still somewhat of a fresh wound. I remember watching the news when the Challenger and the Columbia exploded, Chernobyl, the Iranian Hostage Crisis, Nixon resigning, The fall of Saigon, Watergate, the Tate Murders. The fear and sorrow have been blunted by time. Not certain which really affected me most. Maybe it was when Jim Croce was killed.

EVER? Finding out, through TV, that my good friend, James (Jim) Plonsky, died on the USS Stark in May 1987.

I was the one who had talked him in to joining the Navy.

My oldest son bears the first name of this deceased childhood friend in fond remembrance of him.

Quite a few. the WTC attack in New York was definately emotionally upsetting. Recently reading about a space heater catching a trailer on fire, and a mom and 11 yr old boy trying to rescue the 16 month old girl trapped in her room. They kept trying to get to her but the smoke was too thick and flames were so bad. The little girl died because they couldn't get her out. That was just too sad. * frown *
Also many news stories on this site: http://www.parentsbehavingbadly.com make me sad and ticked off.

Off the top of my head, I'd say that I would have to go back a lot of years to my childhood innocence. I became quite hardened and cynical at a very early age. Now I expect people to behave like butt-holes. When I was a child, I had no comprehension about the very real cruelty and indifference that exists in humanity.

When the Ohio National Guard shot and killed four students at Kent State University in 1970, my parents weren't able to explain why it happened. They didn't know themselves. There was a lot of stuff going on back then that was pretty inexplicable to children. That incident seems to stand out in my mind though.

The most upsetting news story was about a woman who got married and when the wedding was over the flower girl left the wedding in a limo with her parents, grandparents and two of her siblings. There was a camera on the dash of the limo and it recorded a drunk driver coming at them head on in the wrong lane. The driver of the limo actually swerved into the other lane to avoid the drunk driver but the drunk driver swerved into their lane killing the limo driver as well as decapitating the flower girl. The parents and grandparents, and her two siblings survived but were all injured, some seriously. Imagine remembering that as your wedding day. Even the newscaster cried when they showed wedding videos.

That is tragic. I am sorry for your loss. I am sure he was a good friend for you to name your son after him. His memory lives on with the joy of your son. That was a wonderful way to remember him. R.I.P. James Plonsky

The collapse of the World Trade Center. I cannot see images of that event without remembering exactly where I was and how I felt when it happened. Unforgettable.

There was this lady that strangled her baby and cooked it into a stew when the husband came home he asked about dinner, the wife said it was ready, he started eating it and said it tasted funny, he asked where the baby was, she said your eating it, that lady needs to get raped with a hot curling iron then a razor sharp buck knife then shot for doing something like that, she is now in Valley State Prison For Women in Chowchilla California

Its stories..About how kids are treated around the world. The biggest was the stories about people paying huge cash to sleep with infants...sick freaks....It was a story on a baby adopted by a woman who had heard her story..Guess the baby was from africa and the mom tried everything she could for her and her baby but in desperation for money she sold her 3 mth old to men who gang raped this baby and she survived. An American woman heard the story and was so driven for this child she flew to africa to see her and from that point on adopted her.. and all the stories and statistics that went with this case..on others...

Watching the WTC towers fall live on TV was pretty horrific. It's the only time I've been sat watching the news with other people and been unable to stop myself crying.

I forgot this most recent one. The woman who cut a baby from another woman's belly & took the woman's other kids, killed them & stashed their bodies in the washer & dryer. That made me feel a tad upset but mostly disgusted.

There was one here recently that is really upsetting. A group of 12 high school boys sexually abused, bashed and tortured (they set her hair on fire) a mentally retarded girl. They filmed the whole thing and have been selling the dvd's. It is so digusting, it just makes me want to cry everytime I hear about it.

It was horrible. I'm not sure what stage the prosecutions are at, I don't know whether they are even going to charge them all. And some of the parents have been seen saying that they think what their sons did was funny. So disgusting.

Well I think she is ok - obviously traumatised, of course. Her parents were on the news a bit, but I think they are keeping her away from the media. It's gone out of the news now, so I'm not sure where it is all at.
