I'm only fluent in American English. But I know enough of French, Spanish, and German to get myself in a lot of trouble. I'd love to learn Russian some day, and even German. Anyone have any suggestions as to program recommendations? |

Just English and cerealbox French. My daughter is fluent in French though which makes me happy. She's also picking up Italian nicely. |

Only English, plus a bit of Italian. Not very much though! |

Just the one, although I know a few phrases in several others.
When I was in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia for about two months I was able to pick up a vocabulary of about 200 words so that I could order in restaurants, ask directions etc.. I just used a Malay-English dictionary and practiced. I'm pretty rusty now. That was sixteen years ago and I haven't been able to use it much since. |

I only know one language and it is English and Mexico is not to far away from Colorado and most of my neighbors are from Mexico and I do not understand the language or what they are saying |

I can speak English, very little French, and quite a bit of German. |

Only English fluently. I still remember a lot of the French and Spanish I learnt at school, but I'm very rusty. Recently, I've been learning Makaton which I've found very useful, but it's not technically a language in its own right. |

I only know one and a few choice words in a couple others. |

English, though I know a little French from classes I took in grade school (which I hated).
I also know a number of computer languages, but I assume you're not talking about that. |

one... fluently.
I can pick apart some German.... and some Spanish.... but that's it.
The longest conversation I ever have with anyone at work that speaks another language sounds like this:
Me: How can I help you?
Customer: Somebody speaka Spanish?
Me: One moment please. |

I know medical Spanish and that is about it. I really do not know why people want to learn other languages if there is no need for it in their everyday life. |

One. I ain't about to learn Spanish, despite every fudging thing in the stores now in both English and Spanish. |

My therapist is French, the real kind from France. Love her accent. She's pretty attractive too.

It is VERY good for the brain to learn a new language. Even if you don't pick it up fluently the exercise is excellent. My aunt and grandmother are taking Spanish classes, but then they live in Texas & sometimes go to Mexico. |

I know English and some French (3 years in middle school). |
| MiniMary | | (reply to RGirl) posted 20-Oct-2006 4:34pm |
Then I could see why they would want to learn Spanish. But Japanese, Chinese....Oh God, just the thought of all those lines in squiggles meaning actual words freaks me out! |
| RGirl | | (reply to MiniMary) posted 20-Oct-2006 7:24pm |
Freaks me out too. When I was watching foriegn movie and some one signed a piece of paper......from right to left it totally freaked my brain out. |

English is the only language I speak fluently. I can get by in French and Modern Hebrew. I can read German, although I am very dependent on a dictionary. I can also read biblical Hebrew, Akkadian, Ugaritic, Aramaic, and a few other related dialects (none of which are spoken languages). |

I learned French and German at school. I was more interested in laughing at the people in text books to learn anything though. |

I took 3 years of German back in high school. I graduated in 1963 and never used it again.
My Father was good with languages... he took Italian before our first trip overseas... Mother even remembered some of her Spanish from school, but I had to work at German.
I should have taken Spanish, but back then, who knew? |

I speak English very well and am learning Spanish. I am by no means fluent, and intend to change that. |

Only one - although I understand quite a bit of another one (Spanish) I am enrolled in "conversational Spanish" at the local education center this spring. |

1) English
2) French (nowhere near fluent, but I can get by - I'd like to improve my French a lot).
I have a tiny smattering of poorly pronounced Russian and Tamil, but I wouldn't say that I "knew" them. |
