The same reason I don't like little snakes. |

They have big teeth. Which they bite with. |

I like them. I'd love to have a pet python. I don't know why. Maybe because I think it would be impressive to answer the door with a large snake around my neck. |

I don't really care much about snakes, even if Samuel Jackson is somehow involved. |

I like them. I like the way they live: moving and feeding et cetera with just this one part of a body. |

I like snakes. No reason why really I just think they look strong and I like the way they get around and wind around things. |

I like all snakes. I used to be a collector of snakes for a hobby years ago. I've had a couple large pythons, many boas, and tons of other types. Poisonous and non poisonous ones. |

If you want one you can put around your neck, you want a boa not a python. A python gets to big to do that with. |

Mostly dislike because they are pretty creepy.
We have smaller ones around here. I don't have a huge fear of them, but they're kinda creepy. I would think big ones are worse. |

I'm pretty much indifferent to snakes, big or small. I suppose some of them are attractive to look at if they have interesting markings and colouration. Like those Milk Snakes:

I think that some animals should be left alone & a snakes fall into that category. I don't mind handling them but I do believe they mind us handling them. |

Snakes taste great! 'Though not repulsed by them, I'm not into them as pets. |
| cabinfever | | posted 25-Aug-2006 3:32pm |
I like big snakes because they are awesome creatures. Incredibly efficient. I used to have two red tail boa constrictors. It was amazing to watch my larger one swallow a huge rat whole. Feed them once or twice a month... they are easy pets to take care of, as long as you have a proper tank to keep them in and a heat source. Very mellow creatures.
I wish there were options to this one with an added explanation to share the 'why'. I am interested in how many of us like snakes. |

Like all animals, it depends on their personal experience. Most large constrictor snakes in this country have been handled almost since birth, and don't really care if they are handled, as long as the handler respects them. Some even like to be handled because we are a source of warmth. The small, wild snakes around my place don't like to be picked up because they are afraid.... they don't try to bite, they just crap on you.

| cabinfever | | (reply to paulyw) posted 25-Aug-2006 3:38pm |
Why was it gross? Did you ever handle it? Most people are under the preconceived notion that snakes are slimy... they aren't. They are smooth, and some are even almost soft. |
paulyw |
I was 10 years old when this teacher had the snake, and he fed it dead chicks, and seeing it swallow it whole gave me the jitters. I handled a snake, which was a python, about 5 years ago at my boss's shop, and I know how they feel. I am just not a big fan for snakes. |
| cabinfever | | (reply to paulyw) posted 26-Aug-2006 1:21am |
Now why would a teacher feed a snake in front of his students? That is stupid. It only serves to revolt kids who don't quite know yet that all beings have to eat, and sometimes they eat other beings. I don't have a problem with people like you who have actually been around a snake and handled one and still decide that snakes aren't for them. I'm not a big fan of dogs. But people who are afraid of snakes for no reason or go around killing them simply because of some biblical story need to get educated first, and then make a decision. |

> Now why would a teacher feed a snake in front of his students?
That is a good question. And the only answer I can only give you is that the way he is. He even fed it a few live animals, such as a guniuea pig, that was sick, and he was dying, He even fed it a few mice, hamsters, and other small rodents. He god rid of the snake around March of the same year. One time I was in the classroom for a noon detention with another classmate, and I went up to the cage, which was about 4 feet tall, and about a foot in a half wide. I knocked on the cage, and he stuck his tongue at me, which made the teacher mad, because he told me that was teasing him.
One time he was crawling all over the cage, and the janitor walked in and she was watching it, The snake was as high as the cage. I can only assume a few parents did not like the snake in the classroom, and that is why I can only assume he got rid of it My mother liked the snake though. |

When a snake flicks its tongue out at you, it's trying to smell you, that's all. It's not being rude. |

I know that . I asked him why it was teasing him, and he refused to answer. One time he told the classroom (he was feeding him water before classes started) that as he opened the small door, which was on the left hand side of the cage, which was also on the counter, crawled out of the cage about a foot or so, and he blamed me for it. This happened like 2 months after I rapped on the cage. His name was Leon BTW.

Actually, big snakes are far more likely to be constrictors. They'd squash you to death rather than bite you. |

I like big snakes (as opposed to small snakes) because you can see them better and can walk away.
I like small snakes sometimes, they are prettier.
But big snakes give you warning, most of the time, some big ones are sneaky. |

I love all snakes and have since childhood.
My friend has a 4 foot Royal Boa and I love handling it. He says I'm really good with snakes because of how they calm right down when I hold them. He has 6 snakes now.
The Anaconda is my favorite big snake and the Eastern Diamondback for outright beauty.
I love everything about snakes. I really love how the belly scales feel!
I think people should buy snakes bred in captivity, not caught in the wild. |
