Years ago, while working at the Lawrence Radiation Lab, I worked in the travel department, teletyping, I would run across all sorts of names from all over. One or two names, which are not necessarily bad names, but just unusual. I can't seem to forget a man by the name of "Per Harold Person". I guess the parents really had a sense of humor . Also, a man called Mr. Hamburger. Recently I heard a person that named their daughter Crystal Shanda Lear. Unbelieveable.

Oh I read the survey wrong. The worst I can think of was a young man with the last name of Funk...he was razzed unfortunately. Another one is Diane Crump. Another is Dick Constantable. I can imagine what the kids went through in school.

When I was in college, living in the dorms, there was a guy down the hall whose name was James Kirk (his friends called him Jim, but officially it was James). He was kind of a tool, so my buddies and I liked to fudge with him. He'd get so pissed. It was great. And it's not like we only fudgeed with him on occasion. It was constant, daily fudging with. One of my favorites: I called his room one night and pretended I was campus security. The conversation went like this...

ring ring

James Kirk: Hello?
Scott: Hello, may I speak with James?
James Kirk: Uh, this is him.
Scott: This is officer Yandl with public safety. It appears there's a problem with your vehicle.
James Kirk: With my vehicle? I don't think so.
Scott: Yes, sir. Your vehicle is parked illegally and is taking up too many parking spaces.
James Kirk: Ummm, I don't have a car.
Scott: Is this James Kirk.
James Kirk: Yes.
Scott: Well sir, our records indicate that you registered a vehicle in your name.
James Kirk: Really? Cuz I don't, I've never had a car up here. What kind of car does it say I registered?
Scott: Our records show that, on August 24th, registered in the name of James Kirk, was a U.S.S. Enterprise.
James Kirk: Oh FUDGE YOU! YOU FUDGING butt-holeS!!! GROW UP!!!!!

Click, buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I don't know why, but thinking about that still makes me laugh. It would help if you knew this guy.

> Sharon Peters (for real).

I used to work in the collections department at a utility company as a summer job in college. I'd have all kinds of crazy names come across my desk. I actually remember seeing "Sharon Peters"... never actually met her though.

There was another one that sticks out. I can't remember the first name, but their last name was Dickensheets. I got a few chuckles from that one.

Really! That's funny. I just heard the name over the phone. It was probably a joke but I played it like it was her real name. She probably thought she got over on me with it, but she didn't. * laughing out loud *

"Per Harold Person" would be a perfectly normal name in Scandinavia - a bit like "John Steven Johnson" would be in an English-speaking country. So there's probably no humour involved, he's more likely that he's an immigrant or from an immigrant family.

I work in an inner-city daycare, so I've heard quite a few bad ones. The worst is by far a little boy named Peerless.

My cousins' other grandmother is Olga Rewakowski. That's pretty bad I guess. My father's mother came from a family that included; Bernice, Bertha, Muriel, Evelyn, Beatrice and Percy. Evelyn and Bertha lived to be 103 and 101 respectively. Maybe there's some advantage to having horrible names! * raspberry *

I've also met a fellow named John Head. That's two names for a toilet.

I've also known women with the names "Sharon Hole" and "Felicia Reamsbottom".

Really! I just thought the name Per Person as unusual...not a bad name. You're probably right, I dealt with people around the world while working at the Lab, he was probably an immigrant from another part of the world. I found some very unusual names while working at the Lab, were probably very meaningful to their families. I meant no insult to anyone.

One set of customers we had (husband and wife) one was Pesi the other Gool. I think they were Italian. Probably common names there but to me it was really different. Worse? some ass friend of my friend named their girl after some stupid American football coach of all things. What an ass... she'll grow up wishing she could divorce her father.

The names I tend not to like usually have more to do with not liking the person who has them, rather than thinking that the name is bad.

In the military I have seen and come to know a great many odd names. From Lt. Harry Wong, to CDR Leslie Elmer Rearendez the III (both very good men and officers).

On the enlisted side the most made fun of name was that of Leo Fun Pac Yick, a really nice Religious Programs specialist, but since he was slow-witted he was treated mercilessly and only referred to as "Fun-Pac." Sadly, he eventually died of a brain tumor. The worst names I have heard were in college.

In college I had a female Marine Biology classmate named "twinkie Tran," who, about two-thirds through the semester (her first semester in the U.S.) she suddenly changed her first name to 'Tanya.'

In Cell Biology there was a black girl whose first name was "Craphead," pronounced 'Shea-thaid.' I don't remember her last name as she dropped the class, but I believe this rather pessimistic gal indicated that she was named after her father.

Wilton, not so bad but all I could think of, I lived in SF for a few months which was difficult for me since all the asian names are often difficult for me to pronounce. I was dear friends while I was there with an Armenian woman, named Hourig, but I didn't mind it at all. Personally I've met Dick Trickle but I don't know what his parents where thinking. I also actually knew a man who was named Carson Carson. That's right. And no, he was not born this way, he changed his name legally.

Either way, it's not just the pronounciation, it's the spelling and everything. I just really don't like it. Reminds me of fish and I'm not a fish fan.

I talked to a customer named "Winklet" the other day.

When I worked customer service for a department store credit card, there were two different asian names in the system that always tickled us: The Ho and My Ho.

I've worked in collections, data entry, telemarketing, and customer service for years.... so I know what you mean... you deal with a lot of names and some of them are ridiculous.

A lot of co-workers jot them down when they see them.... so I always help them add to their lists when I catch them. I can't really remember many at the moment.
