Do you use covers for your furniture? Why?

Do you use a slipcover or a blanket over your couch, sofa, recliner, or loveseat? Do you use a decorative cover for your bed? How about your kitchen chairs? Why is this?

I used to have a very ugly snot-colored sofa with a corduroy maroon cover. The cover both made it look better and helped hold it together. My husband acquired the sofa upon moving into an apartment where the sofa had been abandoned.

Hah - more like a cover of DUST ! * smile * No way would I hide a piece of furniture under some kind of cover -- this brings to mind novels read about kids growing up in a family that used tacky clear plastic covers to protect their good furniture in the living room or wherever.

No. I used to use one for the couch, but it was too small and kept getting ripped.

"Why do you ask?" has got to be the most hilariously cool SC option I've ever seen.

It will be tempting to request that as an option during qualification now.

Not on most of the furniture, because I think most covers are pretty tacky. There's an afghan that gets folded and placed across the back of one sofa, because it looks neater that way, but it gets taken off and used for warmth pretty much daily. The bed has a comforter with a nice striped cover on it. That's because it's easier to wash the cover than the entire comforter; also, the comforter is black, which is boring. The stripes look much nicer, and I like my bed to look nice.

I have a throw for my bed, but it's more to have an extra layer than for the decorative effect.

Nope. I used to keep blankets on the living room furniture when I had an inside dog. It was easier to just throw the blankets in the wash than to have to clean dog hair all the time. Now we've just got a cat inside and she doesn't leave much hair around.

Throws, because the sofas don't match and they're horrible.

No. Slipcovers do just that - slip. That aggravates me. I have a functional comforter on my bed, not a decorative covering. My chairs are mostly wood or upholstered, uncovered.

I do have a comforter on my bed with matching dust ruffle, pillow shams and curtains. I don’t have any slipcovers over any of my furniture.

No for a couple of reasons. First most of my furniture isn't that expensive or un-cleanable Secondly, I think furniture should be lived on not worried about.

I cover our couch with a comforter that matches the 'decor' of our living room because the couch is very old, broken, the upholstery is coming apart, and it's scratchy.

So has your kitty adjusted to living with you two? The last I heard, she was hiding and wouldn't come out.

But what about furniture that has been 'lived on' a bit too much? * wink *

Yep, she's doing great. It took her about a week to get used to us, but since then she's been our little baby. She sleeps with Caleb every night. And, when he left for school yesterday and today, she sat at the door for several hours, waiting for him. Totally sweet.

I throw a towel over a chair or to because of kitties and their fur.

No. The kids don't have any food upstairs on the boat where the upholstered couch and chairs are. Downstairs where we eat, the only upholstery is in leather which is pretty tough. Here in Georgia, I don't care about the couches (which are leather but kind of ugly). We'll buy new better looking ones once James is a bit older. The only other fabric that they kids could wreck are the cushions on our dining room chairs. Those are already a bit stained but they were the cushions originally made with the chairs in Thailand. At some point, we'll replace those as well.

You reminded me of the those pillows people put on the seats of wooden chairs. They tie them at the back to the rungs of the chair. Either they just rip off because I actually move in my seat or get so irritated I rip them off. Drives me nuts!

Right now I have a quilt thrown over my couch because I don't need it on my bed, and my couch is getting a bit dilapidated. I'd like to have it reupholstered, but my finances aren't ready for that quite yet.

There is a cover on the coach in the den. It's an old one and it makes it look better.

Our living room "furniture" consists of several bean bag chairs of various sizes, so no. If something gets spilled on one of them, all it takes is a damp cloth or paper toweling.

No, that just looks cheap to me. I have covered them temporarally for get-to-gethers so they wouldn't get ruined or dirty.

I use blankets though they are not really decorative. They are functional since I have 4 cats and washing blankets is easier than vaccuming the furniture.

I have a big towel on the end of the couch the dog is usually on - don't always catch her on the way in to wipe her feet or dry her off completely.
The bedspread is an extra layer of covers - not just "decoration".
