| Jody | posted 13-Jul-2006 11:47am In a pinch I've used it to polish sterling silver - it has a mild abrasive and the silver smells minty fresh when you're done! |
| Amanda | posted 13-Jul-2006 11:56am I've used it on nail holes, on wasp stings, to dry out pimples. I think that's about it. |
| cerealkiller | posted 13-Jul-2006 12:00pm Works good filling nail holes. But, don't use the green gel type if you have white walls. |
| Enheduanna | posted 13-Jul-2006 12:04pm The only non-tooth-related application I've ever used it for is on pimples. |
| clare | posted 13-Jul-2006 12:13pm I've only used toothpaste to brush my teeth. |
| Melf | posted 13-Jul-2006 12:18pm To try and sooth a graze where my shoes had been rubbing. It just went sticky. Still, at least my feet smelled nice. |
| LindaH | posted 13-Jul-2006 3:31pm just the obvious. |
| ultamate | posted 13-Jul-2006 5:08pm I've used it to dry up a pimple and to clean a ring. |
| Biggles | posted 13-Jul-2006 5:49pm I think that I've only used toothpaste as toothpaste. |
| Biggles | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 13-Jul-2006 5:51pm Oh, I tried it for that. But I had quite a lot of spots and ended up using quite a lot. Then after about 30 seconds my skin (which is pretty sensitive) started to really burn. I deal fairly well with pain but this was awful - and my eyes were watering like mad from the fumes. It took ages for the tingling to wear off after I'd washed it off. I swore to never do it again! |
| ausfox | posted 13-Jul-2006 5:59pm I once heard that putting toothpaste on a pimple will clear it up overnight. I did it when I was a teenager once. Didn't work. |
| RGirl | posted 13-Jul-2006 6:54pm Hidden nail holes and 'glue' broken stuff. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Biggles) posted 13-Jul-2006 7:08pm I usually found that the tingling went away after a couple of minutes; I didn't used to have such sensitive skin, either. And overall it was worth the tingling, because it worked pretty well. I guess fluoride has multiple uses! |
| Biggles | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 13-Jul-2006 7:14pm I'm more of a benzoyl peroxide girl nowadays |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Biggles) posted 13-Jul-2006 7:23pm I'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide; it made my face all dry and itchy and red (and still pimply). I had to use treatments with salicylic acid, which I don't think works as well. I'm more of a 32-year-old "girl" on birth control these days, so I don't have too much of a problem with pimples. A few years ago I also saw a dermatologist, who gave me a prescription medication that worked really well, too. |
| Biggles | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 13-Jul-2006 7:27pm Hmm, try getting to see a dermatologist on the NHS - you might have a chance if you were head to toe severe eczema, otherwise it's over the counter creams! I'm getting to the age where I don't think my skin is ever going to clear up properly - and I'm worried that birth control pills would cause perpetual PMS. I should just learn to love my spots |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Biggles) posted 13-Jul-2006 8:50pm I have a feeling that I'd still get pimples if I weren't on birth control; my father still gets them, after all! From what you've said about the PMS and cramps and various symptoms that you get, I can't imagine birth control making it any worse! Different pills will work differently for you, though. The first pill I tried (Ortho Tri-Cyclen, I believe) was too high a dosage, though, and it did make me very moody. Then I went on a really low-dosage one (Loestrin 120/Fe) which was great--no moodiness, no PMS, pretty much no period either. But after a while I thought that seemed a little unnatural, so I went off it. Right now I'm on the patch (Ortho-Evra), and it's great. Because it's a patch, it's a steady release, so you don't get the ups-and-downs of a pill dosage that tapers off each day. I have a normal period, a little cramping at times but nothing too bad, clear skin, and no PMS. So I'm sure you could find something that would be a huge improvement and wouldn't involve perpetual PMS! |
| bill | posted 13-Jul-2006 9:27pm I think I've only ever used it to clean my teeth. I tend to use the green gel kind. |
| llamamama | posted 13-Jul-2006 9:59pm Nothing.
'Cept when I was younger I'd mix it with soap and stuff...it was cool.. |
| Enigma | posted 13-Jul-2006 10:37pm I've heard toothpaste cleans watermarks out of wood rather well but I've never tried it. |
| Enigma | (reply to ultamate) posted 13-Jul-2006 10:41pm > I've used it to dry up a pimple and to clean a ring.
Does it work on pimples?? If it does I will tell my daughter about it. |
| cloudhugger | posted 13-Jul-2006 11:32pm Holes in the walls of course...my SO uses it for deoderant. It's the one that has essential oils in it. |
| RGirl | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 14-Jul-2006 12:11am Really? Deoderant? |
| kitti723 | posted 14-Jul-2006 12:50am in jail inmates use toothpaste as a glue to paste pictures & other things on the wall. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to RGirl) posted 14-Jul-2006 9:32am It has oils in it. I tried it, but it's too strong for me. She can pack a very small toiletry bag. |
| Melf | (reply to llamamama) posted 14-Jul-2006 12:36pm I used to do that!
And then it's all this cool colour... and it separates itself (I always used a see through jug, the one my mum uses for the ironing water), and then you put conditioner in, put the conditioner just turns flaky and floats about... good times. |
| RGirl | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 14-Jul-2006 2:57pm I guess I'm dumb on this subject. I don't know what oils have to do with deodorant. |
| MiniMary | posted 14-Jul-2006 3:03pm I must be stupid, as I have never done anything with it except to brush my teeth with it. |
| ultamate | (reply to Enigma) posted 14-Jul-2006 4:53pm The regular white peppermint tooth paste works ok. I think it’s the peppermint and/or the baking soda that actually dries the pimples out though. Don’t use the kind with peroxide in it! I don’t know if it’s true but I’ve heard that peroxide will cause scaring. I think milk of magnesia works better than tooth past. I also heard that goats milk soap is really good for acne but it is expensive if you can even find it. |
| llamamama | (reply to Melf) posted 14-Jul-2006 5:26pm yes!!! Wow, I thought my brother and I were the only one's that did that..haha |

| CarolL | (reply to llamamama) posted 14-Jul-2006 7:21pm When we were young we would go to my friends house and do stuff like that all the time. They owned a corner store so always had lots of everything. What I remember most is mixing baby powder, noxema cream and water. The smell! Like nothing else, and that's a good thing. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to RGirl) posted 14-Jul-2006 7:38pm The oils are antibacterial, anti microbials. Kills germs. |

| CarolL | (reply to llamamama) posted 15-Jul-2006 10:49am What a bad little girl to give your mamma a heart attack like that! |

It tasted incredibly disgusting though...ick |

| Venetian2416 | posted 21-Jul-2006 12:51pm Glue a broken statue together. I broke a when I was young and living at my grandma's house. I was told I wasn't allowed to use super glue, so I tried toothpaste. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 23-Jul-2006 12:39am I came up witha recipe 8 years ago for a sweet citrus toothpaste, kinda like Starburst, which I called in to Colgate. Seven years later they created Herbal White, with Lemon, Eucalyptus, Anise, and Melissa. - even better. Alas, they seem to have discontinued it after a year, so I have to stock up on it from 99¢ stores.
~ Oh wait, I do have a tale. As a young exploratory teen I tried using it as a masturbation lubricant. Boy did I regret that after 20 seconds or so. I was on minty fire. |
| RGirl | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 23-Jul-2006 1:32am maybe you should have used cinnamon flavored Aim? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to RGirl) posted 23-Jul-2006 1:46am Sounds worse. I make custom essential oils (perfumes, spells, and such) and cinnamon is one of those that burns any skin unless you use a synthetic version.
I use cinnamon, mints, pennyroyal, clove, citrus rind, lemongrass, and citronella in flea shampos and roach preventive wall detergent. |
| RGirl | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 23-Jul-2006 1:48am Yeah, come to think of it, cinnamon could be uncomfortable. I wonder how that warming oil or gel works that they advertise. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to RGirl) posted 23-Jul-2006 1:53am Not a clue. I'll stick with organic massage oils I ever have oil purposes, or K-Y. |
