| Dolemite | posted 17-Feb-1998 2:31pm I said male because I listen to virtually no female singers. I think that females sing better, generally, while males are better song writers. Some males are excellent singers, though. |
| Atzilut | posted 17-Feb-1998 2:31pm it really varies. I adore Liz F. From Cocteau Twins, and Laetitia Sadier, from Stereolab but also love Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. . .. |
| steve | posted 17-Feb-1998 6:03pm It's a very mild preference, though. |
| KenShingo | posted 17-Feb-1998 6:17pm I really hate r&b guys.... |
| RacerX | posted 18-Feb-1998 12:34am Female... but I tend to like females more for a lot of stuff... ... like conversation, and stuff. Gender has no influence on a truly good musical statement. Ben Harper is the man! |
| Jaime | posted 18-Feb-1998 3:05am I prefer no singer. Instrumental is the best. If I want some message, I read a book... |
| fiore | posted 18-Feb-1998 12:58pm I love female voices. |
| gilly | posted 18-Feb-1998 1:17pm Female, I suppose, but it depends so much more on the singer than the gender. I do love two-female vocal harmony groups, though, like the Indigo Girls and The Story, and I don't know of any male equivalents. |
| Paco | posted 19-Feb-1998 2:43am Both, male (i.e. Social Distortion, Paul Weller -Jam/Style Council-, Bob Mould -Hüsker Dü/Sugar-, Leonard Cohen, Camarón de la Isla), and female (Suzanne Vega, Cristina Llanos -Dover-, L7...) |
| weth | posted 20-Feb-1998 6:00pm Too restrictive in choices. It depends on genre and message as to what vocal range best suits the musical interpretation. |
| seth | posted 20-Feb-1998 6:57pm Female if they're soloing. Otherwise 2/3 male 1/3 female is a good balance. |
| Artemis | posted 20-Feb-1998 7:51pm There is no "other" here!!! What about multiple singers, when males and females sing? Well, personally I prefer male because most females write music that I hate. |
| Jimmy | posted 22-Feb-1998 4:45am It's not that I am necessarily biased, but if I think about it, my favorite groups are male or at least partially male. |
| Dahlia | posted 22-Feb-1998 8:58pm Sorry, for this one I didn't pick either. It all depends on the song itself. Some sound better with female vocalists, while others are better with male. Besides I am usually more interested in the whole song itself, including music and lyrics, than whether or not it is a man or woman singing. |
| wiggsj | posted 24-Feb-1998 6:45pm Lacking the option of both, I picked male - I like men - gender is immaterial - music is what counts. |
| djo23 | posted 1-Mar-1998 7:28am Female, I find them more attractive. |
| Tonya | posted 2-Mar-1998 11:51am female, so I can sing along with her |
| elijahblue | posted 2-Mar-1998 8:27pm usually male. There's often a richness to the tone quality that is lacking in many female voices. |
| joe | posted 20-Mar-1998 11:33pm neither |
| daver | posted 14-May-1998 8:34pm How about good? Gender is irrelevant, you will be assimilated... |
| lelle | posted 15-May-1998 1:32pm I appreciate a really good male voice more than a good female voice, but of course it depends on the song, too. In general I prefer lower voices (alto and down), so male voices in that range are more commonly good. |
| jjg | posted 17-May-1998 4:51pm As a friend of mine once put it, "Chicks can't rock." |
| BadtzMaru | posted 27-May-1998 2:26pm Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Leah Andreone, Imani Coppola, Lisa Loeb, Tori Amos.... |
| phi | posted 30-Jun-1998 12:50pm More of my favorite vocalists are female, but not by a very large margin. |
| reality | posted 2-Jul-1998 2:51pm straight vocals? accompanied? it depends on my mood and the singer. so, neither has a preference over the other. |
| eloradanan | posted 30-May-2006 7:40pm I don't have a preference. It depends on what they are singing & what type of music it is. |
| Zang | posted 14-Nov-2006 1:46pm I don't really have a preference, but today I like Trish Keenan. |
