Well there is ketchup, then there is tomato sauce that goes on pizza, and then there are many kinds of tomato sauces for pasta.

well I would call ketchup tomato sauce. Then I would say tomato paste or tomato puree for different uses in cooking

I thought everyone pronounced it ketchup regardless of how they spelled it.

I just don't like some words and that's one of them.

I didn't notice the iscrepency in the question...I don't usually spell it out. If I did, it would probably be with a "k".
