| Enheduanna | posted 1-Jun-2006 7:15pm I don't buy a lot of games because I don't play a lot of them. I've bought one video game for myself ever, and that was because it was a Buffy game and I loved the TV show. I've bought a few video games for my SO, based on what I thought he'd like. I've also bought a boardgame or two; I got Scrabble because I played it growing up and knew I liked it. And I got a game for my SO in Europe, because it seemed like he'd like it and because it was called Babel (like Babylon), which I just couldn't resist. |
| Zang | posted 1-Jun-2006 8:03pm Of these, "Recommendation" is the only one that applies. I generally buy games that I've already played and know that I like. I will also buy games that I know are similar to games that I like, although that has sometimes/often resulted in disappointment. I have bought really good games based upon the recommendation of the sales staff in the store.
I can't think of any other factor that has influenced me to buy a game. |
| Enigma | posted 1-Jun-2006 8:57pm Husband likes multiplayer so he and our daughter can play. His latest game is God Of War and he seems to like it. I don't play games myself. |

| llamamama | posted 1-Jun-2006 11:12pm I buy games I know are fun..
I usually discover these games because my father played them.. For example..The Sims..I saw him playing it..and promptly borrowed his CD of it..and now have the Sims 2 a few expansions.. Also, Warcraft 3...my brother, my father, and I all used to play that..Then we all got frozen throne which made it better.. He also got me into Diablo..(which I don't really play because I get lost..) Games like that though..usually started with my brother and him playing..and me wanting to understand what they were talking about.. Now my dad plays World of Warcraft..which I've played a few times..it's fun..but..a giant maze..so I got lost.. But..yeah.. Or I'll buy a game because my brother has it so we can both play.. But..I don't usually buy games.. |

| cabinfever | posted 3-Jun-2006 12:21am The games I play.... well, I can't play as many anymore. I am married now, and live in BFE. Back when I was single.... Oh, wait, that's not what you meant. I don't play games, but my hubby does, and sometimes I like to watch him play. I like games with a good story. |
| cabinfever | (reply to Enigma) posted 3-Jun-2006 12:24am You let your daughter play wargames? How old is she? I made my hubby move his PS2 into our bedroom because of the violence and blood on the games he likes. (Soul Reaver, Blood Omen, Bloodrayne, Medal of Honor.... MOH doesn't have the blood, but is still violent.) |

MOH doesn't have the blood, but is still violent.) No, God Of War, that's his game she doesn't play it. My nine year old nephew comes over and brings the Grand Theft Auto series with him. I told him he wasn't playing them in my house which sort of confused him but hey, my house my rules. Husband and daughter enjoy fishing games, racing games and different Mario games. |
| Amanda | posted 4-Jun-2006 1:50pm I don't purchase games very often, as I don't play them. Every once in a while I'll buy one for Caleb. Usually it's based on the content and price.
Speaking of games, I believe all copies of WoW should be burned. |
| gsummers | posted 4-Jun-2006 5:59pm what games tho.. sport, board ,card or video?? Usually its ones that Im already familiar with... tried, tested and true sort of thing. |
| Cain | posted 5-Jun-2006 9:29am Erm, usually the form that the gameplay takes. I like the old fashioned platform style games, where you're going across the screen rather than in a 3D world. And I like the Tycoon/Sim City style games too. Not much else. |
| cerealkiller | posted 6-Jun-2006 7:00pm Other - I don't buy or play games. |
| southernyankee | posted 7-Jun-2006 5:10pm if its multiplayer and doesn't sacrifice quaility for graphics. Oh, and price. |
| southernyankee | (reply to cabinfever) posted 7-Jun-2006 5:13pm I don't see whats wrong with girls playing wargames. Isn't that like against gender equality or something? |
| cabinfever | (reply to southernyankee) posted 7-Jun-2006 6:00pm Okay, how about this? "You let your kid play wargames?" I just happened to know that Enigma has a daughter, it wasn't a gender thing. C'mon, SY, you should know me a little better than that by now. |
| southernyankee | (reply to cabinfever) posted 7-Jun-2006 6:08pm ok, fair enough
---- but whats wrong with war games? ---- |
| cabinfever | (reply to southernyankee) posted 7-Jun-2006 6:12pm For adults who know better, nothing. My husband plays them often and he's one of the least violent people I know. But for children under the age of 12 or 14, they are incredibly inappropriate. There are plenty of kids games out there without letting a child blow blood and guts all over the screen. |
