Supper was hours ago. As to what I serve, it varies too much from day to day depending on the household schedule. |

I'm so sick of take-out!!!
I took the time tonight to buy what I used to think was sacriledge; pre-cut vegetables to make a chicken stir-fry. Fudge it! If I buy all those vegetables to make that one meal; I'll throw away the rest! It was delicious! For most people, eating out is a treat; for me - eating in is a treat! Go figure... |

Well, I don't cook so hot & I'm a lot of the times alone so what you would call an evening meal is more like lunch to me. I eat a cooked meal in the afternoon & my girlfriend cooks it. I might have left overs of that in the evening, or just a sandwich and fruit. I try not to cook with the stove or oven when I'm alone because if I walk away I might forget that I'm cooking anything. It's happened before & makes certain other people nervous so I stick with some thing I can put in the microwave. I am going to learn how to use a steamer so I can steam rice & veggies. |

It varies too much to give a definite answer. There are so many factors such as whether I'm eating alone if my son is off doing things with his friends, whether or not one or both of us has to work overtime (we work at different places and have different schedules), how tired I am (I do most, if not all of the cooking), what we're in the mood for, etc. |

Nothing. There is no "supper" here in California. That's a Southern term. It's called "dinner" in most places.
Tonight - eggs, bacon, sausage, muffin and coffee at Denny's. |

Tonight it was a PBJ for the kid and a bowl of Lucky Charms for me. Sometimes I actually cook, like when the hubby is actually home. |
| cabinfever | | (reply to RGirl) posted 29-Mar-2006 3:33am |
Doing the smaller-meal thing in the evening is actually better for you anyway. |
| RGirl |
I didn't know that. Why? |
| cabinfever | | (reply to RGirl) posted 29-Mar-2006 4:05am |
Because biologically, the big meal of the day should be breakfast, since you haven't eaten all night and your body needs fuel to get going. Dinner is supposed to be small, just enough to take you through 'til morning. A big dinner doesn't get 'worked off'. It just sits in your tummy and ends up on your hips. |
| RGirl |
Huh. Cool. I actually only eat one real meal a day anyway. I'll have snacks too. I eat a lot of junk though. I'm sure I'll pay for it. |

Tonight I've made lasagne for my husband and me. (It's not one of my favorite things to eat...it's okay, but he likes it so I'll make it a couple of times a year.) We'll have salad and red wine with it. The kids ate stir fried beef and fruit smoothies. |

Normally it's a big steak on the grill Sides vary according to mine and my Womans choice at the time. I like doing other things too. Like meatloafs, roasts, briskets (one of my favorites), hams, Jambalaya, red beans and rice, ham and beans, shepherds pie, etc... I love to cook and make a lot of things up as I go too. Good survey! |

Firstly, most people take dinner hours before I do. I usually have a dinner around 10pm. It's usually something pre-made already simply because I don't have time to cook. |
Galomorro | | posted 29-Mar-2006 11:01am |
Usually a meat dish, sometimes pasta, less frequently fish. I don't cook; one of my next-door neighbors does. We have a thing where I do the shopping and he cooks, cuz cooking is his hobby. |
Enheduanna | | posted 29-Mar-2006 12:05pm |
It really varies. Very often there's chicken or ground turkey. Lots of pasta and rice as well. Most of my meals are things that can be eaten out of a bowl and don't require a knife. |

I don't cook much, so it's usually whatever can go in the microwave. Last night, I ate a chicken sandwich and Caleb ate a cup of noodles. When we want "real" food, we eat at my dad's, because he cooks about every night.
I'm planning to start cooking more, but can't right now. I just bought an electric stove to replace the gas one that I had. Now, I'm waiting for my brother to put in a 220 plug, so I can actually use the new stove. I've had it a week and he hasn't done it, yet. He says, "it's on the list," which means it'll get done sometime between now and Christmas. |

Hmm.... Well, I normally work until 7:30pm, so my daughter eats dinner with her dad. I usually have a PB&J sandwich or a bowl of cereal or soup for dinner around 9pm. Sometimes Ben brings me food after work. |

I like that you call your child "the kid". I do it as well.... and it's kind of like a term of endearment with us..... I even call her "kid" instead of Mary sometimes.
I briefly dated a man who was a social worker with child services (though he had no children)... and he always expressed disapproval of my doing this. He would correct me ("Not 'the kid', Mary")..... and it annoyed me to no end. Don't judge my parenting unless you are a parent yourself..... and then ....still..... watch yourself. |

I don't really have a normal meal. I eat pretty much any type of meal, so whatever mood I'm in determines whether its chinese, mexican, curry, something and chips etc. |

I don't do it often... I do call her 'kiddo' sometimes, or any number of other terms of endearment. That guy had some nerve correcting you... I guess that's why you dated him 'briefly' . He'd probably frown on my feeding my kid PBJ's for dinner, but that's what she wanted, and I wasn't feeling well. She won't hardly eat anything else at home, but when we go out, she'll eat almost anything put in front of her. She's healthy, clean, and happy, so child services can kiss my wide white ass. Besides, peanut butter is good for you. She's off the chart for height, and she's not heavy or chunky... and she drinks more milk than my hubby and I put together. She's well-behaved and usually minds her manners. |

It depends on the time of the year, what's going on in my garden, what I feel like having. I don't really plan a menu of what I'm going to have for my evening menu since I live alone and have only myself to cook for. |
| bcollins | | posted 31-Mar-2006 2:34pm |
Sometimes fast food, sometimes something I cook (I can make a few simple dishes), sometimes a tv dinner. Depends on what I'm in the mood for that night. Sometimes I have dinner at my mom's house. I don't plan ahead, I just go with what I'm in the mood for. |
| Enigma | | posted 31-Mar-2006 5:33pm |
Lets see... family favourites are my pasta carbonara and pasta with alfredo sauce. Pork chops, mashed potato's and corn or carrots. These are a few typical meals. We also have a George Foreman Grill which helps me make good meals in less time because I'm often tired after work. I still see preparing the dinner meal my responsibility tired or not. Sometimes we just have soup and sandwich. Sometimes we have breakfast for dinner. |

Sitting in front of the TV, Some chunk of meat if my husband is cooking, and some sort of casserole if I'm doing it. |

Whatever I'm hungry for. I haven't decided on what I'll have this evening just yet. |

I don't think there is any such thing as normal in my home. My job entails me being on the road a lot so I usually don't know what I'm going to have for supper or what restaurant I'll be getting my supper at, but it's usually going to be some kind of fast food. At home, it depends on whether I feel like actually cooking something, nuking something in the microwave or opening a can of soup. |
| eloradanan | | posted 15-May-2006 2:09am |
When I have a full schedule, I'll make up a big pot of spaghetti & have that for several nights running. Or I'll make up a big pot of vegetable stew or bean soup (this mostly in cold weather). I like them all reheated. |

We eat a pretty varied diet. Lots of rice dishes like pilaf or paella, fish, casseroles, lots of pasta, Filipino dishes, roast meat and veg. I love food and like to try new recipes. |

Whatever I'm in the mood to have. My roommate and I cook our own meals. I really don't have a set pattern for the evening meal. It depends on whether I feel like cooking, is it hot out, maybe I'll just have a salad or a sandwich,. It depends on how hungry I am as well. Do I want to cook or not? Tonight I had a tuna sandwich and a bowl of ice cream. Tomorrow night, who knows? |
| mross |
I tend to eat a lot of pasta, chicken, rice pilaf, soups and salads, but tonight I went out to dinner with a friend. Big surprise, I had a chicken sandwich. Grilled chicken breast, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, provolone cheese, served on toasted french bread. Sometimes I get a hankering for meatloaf & baked potato. |
| falkensmaze |
I had a grilled cheese sandwich made with provolone cheese and buttermilk potato bread and some cole slaw. |

Depending on the weather and my appetite, which has been lousy since my asthma attack a couple of days ago, it could be anything from a bowl of cereal to a piece of broiled ham, baked potato and some kind of vegetable. Tonight it was a bowl of tomato soup since that's all I felt like eating. Sometime I cook out on the grill too. When I cook for myself I like to make something that doesn't take a lot of time, but if I'm cooking for company, I pull out all the stops. For myself I like pasta, soup, sandwiches, grilled chicken, salads, fruit salad. |
